There was talk in another forum (Modojo) about games that would help sell the next gen systems. Someone mentioned that a Pokemon MMORPG would sell like hotcakes.

Ive never played Pokemon, talisin played it a little. I watched the occational cartoon and the first movie out of curiousity. I know how the game works (OK Ive played the N64 version and Pokemon Snap(I really liked pokemon snap lol)) and I cant help but admit that I think a Pokemon would translate perfectly to a MMORPG.

They could even do really cool new things with the game that would eliminate leveling and such.


Your character would never level but you would have to level your pokemon. Super rare pokemon could be limited in the same way super rare drops are in FFXI or any other MMO.

I think it would be interesting to say the least.

I'd actually agree that the concept is perfect, but given pokemon's history its something I'd rather not return to.

This isn't just a concept...Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo rep, hinted very strongly that something like this was in development.

Like previously said, it's a wonderful concept, and I actually enjoy Pokemon games themselves, but the userbase would be horrific. Hell no.

Id play it, you can go ahead and mock me all you want, but the concept is perfect for an MMO.

Would be nice if they could make servers based on age lol. I agree though that the player base would probably be the downfall, then again, most games suck because of the playerbase not the game.

Pokemon games were fun, I'd try out the MMO, I donno what it would be like for the end game, maybe have live people be the elite four or something and be super uber hard or what not

Never played a Pokemon game of any kind. I watched the show briefly a couple of times and wanted to gouge out my eyes with a wooden spoon. I am sure the games are fun, but after seeing that show I will avoid anything Pokemon like it gives me cancer.

if they charged a monthly fee to run the servers, noone would play it. imagine PvP'ing with a Charizard against some n00b w/ a Bulbasaur :P

the Bulbasaur Vs charizard thing doesn't really hold.

If anything its a lot like a Job systems. Sure you may start out with a lvl 1 Bulbasaur, but when you hit level 30 not only does bulbasaur evolve into Leafasauresrex or whatever but you also gain the ability to unlock new "jobs" such as Charizard or other Pokemon of that sort.

And the majority of the game could be bassed on Pvp tournaments and such. But I'm sure they will be tiered with level caps, and rarity caps, and that sort of thing.

In short I see no reason why an online verision of the current pokemon couldn't work. Add in a persisitent world with other players vying for the same goals and it could be quite fun.

I probably wouldn't pay a monthly fee for it, but I could see dicking around in it for a fair bit as a change of pace from the usual hardcore fare I prefer in MMos.

I just hope i can be the first kid with the name ash or sepheroth (w/e)

Hell yes I would play this game....They just need to work on the Battle system...Only 4 moves my ass.

It'd probably work just like the real game except you have the possibility of running into other real life trainers and battling them and their pokemon.

Really, i wouldn't be surprised if evolution didn't have some sort of internet capable pokemon game.
Seems the trend is that people just dont want to play multiplayer, they want to play multiplayer with people all around the globe.
