After I quit FFXI I've almost completely lost interest in video games...has this happened to anyone else?

I don't think I've finished one game after FFXI, I lost interest playing Dragon Quest VIII, Xenosaga II, Kingdom Hearts ($20 yesss), Devil May Cry 3, and a few others. What the fuck is this lol, I'm 21 not 40, someone help me out and suggest a good game. This is scaring me.

lol@whisp

honestly I had this problem too after quitting FFXI. I lost interest in console rpgs. I tried Suikoden IV, Dragon Quest VIII, and never finished either. I took a hiatus from rpgs for a while, playing FPSs, fighting games (me and whisp had legendary tekken tag marathons last year), and baseball video games. Last Xmas I asked for a DS because a few of the games intrigued me, and let me tell you that was the best gaming decision I've made in a long time. DS games are just right up my alley. Now I'm looking foward to rpgs again, like the FFV and FFVI remakes for GBA, and the FFIII remake for DS, and children of mana, etc. But my suggestion is maybe look into other genres that are totally different than FFXI, or do what Whisp did and try to recreate FFXI in every game he plays haha.

Yea, I lose interest in most games very quickly. Even if I like playing them. I can't even remember the last game I beat.

Naw never really happened to me. I play wow about 2/3s as much as i played FFXI. I find myself playing alot but not every day and not for tons and tons of time.

Ive had a hard time getting into console gaming though, but that happened long before I quit.

i do think you made a good point though. ffxi is so big, its unlikely any of us will ever reach that level of fun in a game again.

its probably for the best.

as for me, i've filled the void with school. those who know me know how much effort i put into ffxi. i'm putting that into school now, so i'm getting all A's.

another nifty trick is to give away your character ;p
also you can get some ffxi soundtracks if you ever need an ff fix http://www.toycup.com/vidgamsoun.html

I've been cutting back on FFXI as well, so I understand the lack of interest in other video games. Two console games have helped me out though:

Black (Bitchin' FPS, get the need to kill out of the way. You play as reliving a Black Ops mission gone bad. The weapons rule, the AI is pretty good(I prefer the Farcry AI though), and you can use the enviroment to kill your oponents.)

Burnout: Revenge (Racing game with similar aspects to Soul Caliber in the way that you have certain types of races you have to do to unlock stuff. My favorite part would have to be the Take Down races where you have to force your cometitors to crash. The Destruction ones are where you have to go through an intersection and cause a crash big enough to generate so much worth of damage.)

I play games and have finished a few while playing FFXI lol... Xenosaga I, Ninja Gaiden, Half-Life 2, Fear, Kingdom Hearts (replayed recently), Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, Knights of the Old Republic, Wind Waker, Halo 2, SoulCalibur2 for GC and Xbox lol.. and a few more that I can't remember atm.. but those are the ones I actually finished/beat. I played some others but lost interest and did not finish... Oblivion, KotoR2, Otogi, Call of Duty 2, FF7 6 4 (replays on emulators), LotR rpg, Guild Wars, and Legends of Symphonia to name a few. I basically got bored of those games and stopped playing them lol.

This was all done WHILE playing FFXI.. and working a 30-40 hr a week job and going to college for 6 to 12 hrs a semester including summers and getting above a 3.0. That and I have 155 days playtime in FFXI... 79 or so is purely end game content.

MMO wise during FFXI I have played WoW, City of Heroes, Lineage II, Dungeons and Dragons Online (total crap if you can call DnDO a MMO).... I think I have played WoW the most with CoH coming in a close second.. well aside from FFXI being played almost 10 times than all of the other MMOs combined. Yeah I have played a shitload of games in the past 3 years... fucking scary.

I have this same problem. Haven't tried too many games though. While playing FFXI I tried replaying Zelda Wind Waker and tried Metroid Prime Echoes (when it first came out) and ended up quitting both very quick.

My last break from FFXI started around November 2005 and I played Dragon Quest VIII casually for 110 hours. That took me til January. Then I picked up Mega Man X collection (I LOVE mega man) and beat 1-4 and got bored. Other than that...nothing has been able to grasp my interest enough to play. I see games I want to play but I never end up doing it. I didn't used to be like this....I used to pick up RPGs and grind through them until 100% completion (or damn close) with no problems of losing interest. I want that back. I think i'm gonna play Kingdom Hearts 2 soon. FFXI is becoming less fun yet again.

I think what I miss is the customization of FFXI...how is FFTactics in that respect? Or is it even playable with its old graphics?

That sounds pretty much exactly what I did...I couldn't stay interested with RPGs, and basically played Socom III when the other games got boring. I even got a DS on Xmas too haha, I only have Mario Kart and the sonic game though, maybe i'll look into some of the other games. What ones would you recommend?

If you haven't played FF Tactics, drop what you're doing right now and go find a copy. It's seriously one of the best games ever. The graphics are good for the type of game that it is.

I only own two DS games, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, and Advance Wars: Dual Strike, both which I highly recommend. Also New Super Mario Bros. comes out in a couple weeks, and you know that's gonna be good.

Yeah I got sick of FFTA really damn fast... well as soon as the cards started getting retarded with some of the rules... fuck those judges. Not going through all that shit to unlock Cid or w/e to make it so I can overule all of them either. Really made the game annoying.

My interest in console gaming has gone down over the past several years, but I don't believe that it's any direct cause of FFXI. There's very little innovation these days...I look forward to Okami on PS2, but besides that, the only console games I've played in the past year are Guitar Hero and a few replays of old-school RPGs.

The DS is another story, as TS has mentioned. Tons of great games and interesting new genres to hold my attention, and since I can play it anywhere, I don't feel so bogged down by them. I greatly look forward to the Wii, as I expect it to take hold of my life very quickly.

I might try FF tacticas actually. That's one of the few "Final Fantasy" games I haven't played at all.

yea the judge thing pissed me off. As soon as those rules were being established i stopped playing lol. And i was really excited that it came out on gba. I hope they make a psp one. Thats more like the psx one.

You have to REPLAY the lvls over again at one point, which is super gay. I hated how the only new lvls they added were Pride Rock, and Mulan's level. Twilight Town doesn't count because it was in CoM.

You dont really miss anything at the end, just all the homosexual stuff talking about "Hearts" and the gay love scenes between Sora and Riku. Ends in a cliff hanger like the 1st one, looks like there'll be a 3rd.
