![]() http://www.gamespot.com/news/6150506.html LOS ANGELES--Tonight at a special event in the Los Angeles Convention Center, Nintendo answered a question many visitors to its booth have been asking. Namely, why wasn't the new Super Smash Bros. playable in the Wii section of the publisher's massive E3 booth? Apparently Nintendo wanted to keep several aspects of the game under wraps from the public. The secrets were revealed at tonight's event, which gathered a select group of journalists inside a darkened theater in Nintendo's booth. They were treated to a brief movie of the new Super Smash Bros. game, which began with three veterans of the series--Pikachu, Kirby, and Mario--engaging in yet another free-for-all brawl. The melee was joined by three more classic Nintendo characters making their Super Smash Bros. debut. Wario, Kid Icarus hero Pit, and Kirby villain Meta Knight soon jumped into the fray, followed by a returning character in a new form. That would be "Zero Suit Samus"--the Metroid Prime heroine out of signature power armor, and in a slinky catsuit. Then the trailer took an even more surprising turn. The scene shifted to an unidentified installment in Konami's signature Metal Gear Solid series. Its hero, the rough-hewn commando Solid Snake, spoke with his compatriot Otacon via the Codec communicator, a staple of the MGS series. Otacon tells snake he's been invited to join Super Smash Bros., and then asks where he is. Snake says he's on recon, and then the camera pulls back to reveal Snake hiding inside a cardboard box inside the Super Smash Bros. arena. The inside joke elicited thunderous laughter from the crowd. The final title for the Wii game was then revealed--Super Smash Bros. Brawl. As the laughter died down, the lights came up, and Miyamoto retook the stage--where a second stool sat. After wondering aloud who the stool was for, he was joined on stage by Masahiro Sakurai, an industry vet who's worked with Miyamoto since Kirby. Sakurai told the audience he'd says that he's gone independent and thought he'd never work on a Smash Bros. game again. However, last year around the same time as E3, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata personally asked him to help bring the series to the Wii. Nintendo even assembled a special internal development team for Sakurai, and the independent developer found the offer too great to resist. Sakurai also told the crowd that he is still accepting applications to come work on the project. He said they have an office in Tokyo staffed by a group of people from diverse backgrounds, adding that they've only just begun work on Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Miyamoto laughed at the comment, and pointing out that the team had been together since October of last year. Sakurai then joked that even though they have been working so hard, there's nothing more than the trailer to show for their efforts. Miyamoto then opened up the floor to questions, which sparked an upbeat Q&A session. The first questioner asked, "Now that the Wii is a reality are you inspired to revisit older franchises the fans have been asking for?" "I think it opens up a lot of different possibilities," was Miyamoto's response. He said he thought he could see a Wii version of Kid Icarus, and that the Wii controller could enhance games like Starfox. "Sadly, though, I don't have time to do that right now since I'm so tied to so many different projects going on," said Miyamoto via a translator. He then commented how it would be nice to add Wii controller support for virtual console titles. The next question was for Sakurai, and was relatively simple. "What are some of your ideas for Wii games?" Laughing sheepishly, he said that he wasn't prepared to talk about anything just yet. He did, however want to talk about Super Mario Galaxy. He said one thing he always wanted to do was have one person play as Mario and have others help out. As such, he is looking at a multiplayer mode [for Galaxy] where one person plays as Mario and another helps with the Wii controller. CHECK BACK SOON FOR MORE UPDATES FROM THE ONGOING NINTENDO EVENT |

Indeed. God. That game is such a fucking riot to play with a group. If they can implement some truely unique control schemes with the wiimote (or even just improve upon the game whilst using the gamecube or classic controller) it's going to be truely something. Nerf Sheik though. Then Hale can't whore him and kill me all the time with the chains. |

How would that work? Even a tiny bit of delay would really screw it up. It'd be cool though. |

OH MY GAAWD I LOVE SSBB ITS GONNA BE SO HAWT they are not changing the control scheme vastly from gamecube, thats awesome, the graphics look beautiful, and the stages look awesome. I can't wait to see the expanded character roster, the only bad part is the 2007 release, but time flies and there will be other games to play before then... but damn i can't wait. I reign over everyone on my hall as Marth. I hate people who play Sheik though, because they never use Zelda, and Zelda is a bad ass. |

lol my characters are sheik, ness, and falco sheik being my primary, sheik is all about speed and tilts, she is so fast you don't even have to really wavedash with her. The major characters at the top level of play are fox, shiek, and roy. I'll play you when it comes out on wii, bet 5 bucks i win though :-p quote it for truth if you want :-p EDIT: Zelda has good smash attacks but her speed is horrible, any top tier character will murder her speed, thats why she isn't top tier, only sheik is, turning into zelda can end a match for you quickly. but your more then welcome to show off with me ![]() |

Here's how it usually shapes up: In a four player game, Hale basically dominates with Sheik. I don't think he uses Zelda (she really only has the glitter attack anyways, heh). I'm usually Fox. I do OK but only when secretly double teaming Hale, haha. My other friend usually just plays whoever and does OK as well. Then the fourth friend just sits there as Yoshi on the bottom of the map, gets into an egg and just goes back and forth on the bottom while we fight up top haha. It goes so annoying to get to 150% and then fall down and get hit by a spinning egg, haha. He doesn't play very many video games but he usually does pretty well. |

My smash team in jersey is: Cousin: Sheik, Link, Young Link Cousin: Sheik, Marth, Link Cousin: Marth, Roy, Link Friend: Falco, Fox, Kirby Friend: Falco, Samus, Roy The games are intense, my two cousins learned sheik from me, so when we end up facing off we acutally usually resemble a mirror match, we will acutally have the same exact timing on our combos. the other one if he is there will jsut do the sword maneuver combo over and over all over the place, he is only 5, so we cut him slack. The other friends prqactice the infinite shine combos for fox. Basically we are a pretty solid team, we all have a good way to round out each other's weaknesses. I'm a horrible thrower as i always combo up instead of throwing or chain grabbing, so my cousin has learned to do it well. I've only lost competively twice, to the same guy, it was 2-1 last time we played each other, he is really good. Played over 2000 people when I ran my store, and had 25 tournaments in the store before I moved down here to FL and quit. I'm signed up for MLG next year, and hopefully I'll be touring the country with them if I can win and play well enough professionally, it will be my first pro-playing. Laugh if you want, this is my game, I'm a fanatic, but everyone has to have their bit of insanity otherwise you don't have your vent. I've gotten maybe 4 or 5k worth of money and stuff ever since me and my team started playing local tourneys up in jersey? I know I'm not bad anywayz. ![]() Here is the trailer for the game shown at the after hours press conference http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v423/McFox9/?action=view¤t=SBR_EN_revised_060502_wmvlowwide.flv If anyone finds a way to rip that off and copy it, let me know, I'm sort of lazy to figure out how right now. |

He's talking about combos, not Sheik's side B. Daedalan, I'd love to play you some time. Anyways, to be honest I think that the only reason that I am buying Wii is for SSBB. Lol, I had like literally 2,000 posts at the Gamewinners boards, and almost all of them were in the SSB forum. I never got involved in tournaments or anything, so I wouldn't call myself professional or anything but I love this game too much. Top three characters in order would be: Sheik, Marth, and Fox. I remember renting SSB64 sooo many times in a row before I gave in and bought it. Kirby was the shit. Then SSBM came out and at first I was like "No Kirby? Fuck you SSBM." But then I started to play it and hell yes. I think I reached my peak like two years ago, but I haven't played it at all since then. That's it, I'm going to go dust off my gamecube right now. |

Kudos to Nintendo for understanding that not all gametypes will work perfectly with the motion sensing. Brilliant move, brilliant game...Nintendo owns next-gen. Oh yeah, Metroid Prime 3 confirmed for launch, too. My God. A system hasn't had a launch like this...ever. Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess (which, according to reports, might just be the best game of all time), Metroid Prime 3, Red Steel...ridiculous. Ri-freaking-diculous. |

Can't say I've been horridly impressed with the reports coming out from the Red-Steel sector, but yeah, it's going to rock balls. Imagine how much they've been able to add to Twilight Princess! It was originally slated for release over a half-year ago. They've had ample time to Wii-ify it and I'm sure they're adding new content too. |
