I actually bought a TV with the intention to do HD gaming. I didnt get one with 1080p (Dont feel like spending 5 million for a 40+inch tv that can do that), but I have a quality 720p/1080i TV with an image and colour quality that is hard to match.

It is possible to get small LCD screens that do 1080p for pretty cheap (around 1k), so the idea that 1080p is an option for rich folks only is out the door.

So the question is simple. how important is HD gaming to you?

Not very important to me. I just want a TV that displays things fairly large and is bright. I'm much more of an audiophile now, though. 5.1 Surround sound is the way to go.

yeah I agree, gaming in 5.1 is much better. I noticed a big difference in quality when I started using the optical connection on my PS2. not everything is 5.1 but the quality is much better with optical.

To me the real "Next Gen" feel comes from HD images.

I'm excited about the inclusion of an HDMI connector on the premium model PS3. I have an upscaling DVD recorder with an HDMI output and it looks incredible on my TV in 1080i. 1080p is good and all but it's not worth the cost right now.

Not important at all. I want games to be games. Fun and enjoying and challenging and with a story.

That's because kids now a days dont want hard stuff. They want pretty lil games that require no skill to do, and if there are bonus items they better be given after a win! No more of that Resident Evil S ranking! That stuff was hard! blah blah blah. I miss hard stuff >.>. Disgea was hard.

only difference i see in HD, is with real people. like watching the baseball game, and switching back and forth is amazing. but i honestly cant tell very much difference with gaming.

graphics aren't really important to me. I rarely want to play a game based on how it looks.

Did you play Ninja Gaiden for Xbox on Hard difficulty?

Yeah I think HD gaming is somewhat important. Xbox again has progressive scan (480p on alot of games and a few that did 1080i etc). That made me buy some of the games for Xbox instead of the PS2 versions of the same titles. 5.1 surround sound is also something I look for in next generation games. Right now the best I have access to is 1080i/720p and 5.1, but that should be fine for the next generation.

Well, for me its all about gameplay...and I dont really call PS3 and X360 next-gen...just the same games but they look a little better when you can afford an HDTV.
Funny thing is that not alot of people in Europe have an HDTV compared to the US. The US is more suitable for the PS3 and X360 atm.

(I dont have an HDTV either..I rather buy some FUN games)

I actually dont mind that Wii is not HD. I just would like to see it use a wide screen format so my TV doesnt have bars on the side.

HDTV is still a kinda new trend here, only about 10 channels out of 800+ offer a HD service and I know one person that hasa HDTV, just one.

I don't mind tho, british TV is good enough to watch in black and white

It isn't next generation if it doesn't support HDTV. Hell Xbox had HDTV support, Wii is gimp as hell in that regard. Fucking at least do 480p lmao. Well I have 2 HDTV in my house so I am biased I guess. That is the biggest difference maker in my opinion visually and visuals are what traditionally determine generations in consoles. Xbox360 and PS3 have next generation graphics. Wii has a gameplay innovation that looks to be nice, hopefully its not gimmicky when I try it. Sony and MS could easily copy the Wii's controller idea and add a gyroscope onto their own consoles' controller lineups that differs from Nintendo's just enough to get past any patents. Hell Sony already has a half-assed attempt at a gyroscopic controller. If the Wii controller is really that big of an innovation, the other consoles can easily make a variation of it themselves. Nintendo however will never make the Wii match Xbox360 or PS3 graphically.

Hate to break it to you ladies. But the the importants of HD gaming hasn't been completely realized as of yet.

Plenty of homes in North america have yet to own hdtv. On top of that Parents aren't always going to take a liken to they're kids taking the living room tv all for themselves. I remember reading a report that most hdtv are in the living room. THe homes that do have hdtvs only own 1.

The adoption of hdtv is growing yes. But the bulk of gaming for the next 2-4 years will be done on normal standard tvs.

Could care less right now. If someone is willing to give me an HDTV, I may change my tune. Sharper image isn't that important enough to me that I'll drop a crapload of money on a TV like that.

Just makes a bigger difference imo when you are talking about games this generation getting higher polygon counts and more detailed textures with better effects. The sharper the picture the better. I have been spoiled by having a HDTV in my parents house for like over 3 years haha. Its a fucking huge difference and is why Xbox shitted all over the other consoles of the last generation hardware wise. A smaller LCD HDTV can double as a computer monitor (got one downstairs) that is more affordable than the bigger sets. HDTV is really worth it. Although the cost of living where I live isn't that high. You and Mikey live in NY... where I live there is no state income tax and the city I live in isn't too bad for rent, utility bills, etc haha. That leaves for more money for a HDTV set for example.

Wii will have enough great games I think for me to buy it at launch. Its graphic capabilities though place it in the same generation as Gamecube... no real leap going on. Xbox360 was a bigger leap than GC to Wii. That is saying alot as 360 isn't an insanely big improvement on Xbox. PS3 is supposedly making the biggest leap, but all I have seen is hype and no actual footage of people playing the damn games themselves. Hopefully FF12 will reinterest me in the FF series after FF8, 9, 10 and now 11 disappointing me in different ways. Otherwise I will not even bother with a $600 PS3.
