Who preordered this? I did as usual for a FF game. PA has an interesting article today about how the battle system is not under the control of the player via the Gambit System. Basically you program AI for all of your characters and watch them fight. Makes the game one long cutscene with little to no player involvement. This is a trend I have been seeing in RPGs anyways. They refer to this 1up article http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3153387&did=1 |

I played the demo and the gambit system is probably because the game is quite fast paced, so its somewhat difficult to control more than 1 -2 characters effectively the gambit system seems to be to be allowing the characters not directly under your control at a given time to react effectively. For example you're in a mundane fight and you're controling all the character, but it uses a big attack, so while you cast protect with 1 character you can turn the gambit system on and the others will heal up the party, or rez the one who died etc. And since its quite customizable you also control how much you want them doing without your input. be it auto attacks, or somehting complicated. I can't say without more time with it, if its a good system bug free and user friendly, or at least powerful enough to make it worth using once a player becomes skilled, but its hardly the end of interactivty with the game unless you choose to make it so. I've heard some compare it to FFXI, where you pick you one "P.C." to focus your attentions on, and the others something like other P.C.s you'd play with in an EXp PT, performing their job roles fairly effective, but not doing anything outstanding =P |

Yeah I played the demo version as well, it came with Dragon Quest VIII. It was too much like FFXI in some ways. I know its programmable AI, and that you can put it on wait mode to go turn based also like the other FFs. Just I don't think this is a positive trend in online RPGs to have less control of what happens in the fight. The AI seemed to work ok in the demo, but those weren't necessarily difficult fights. The wait mode is kind of like how previous FF games were as far as being turn based, but the game feels too much like FFXI when its in real time. Haha especially when fighting an Adamantoise and seeing Madragora types on a beach in another area. The summons/espers/whatever were spectacular as far as their entry CS goes. They weren't really under much of my control and they really just went beating shit up until I told it to do a special attack. Extremely impressive CG of course. |

The demo really really pissed me off. It was atrocious because of how easy it was. I just set it on auto attack and they auto cured me and everything. I've been assured the real game isn't as easy though. If they want more twitch in the gameplay then don't make everything so automated |

hey question was looking at yarrs post in another thread and hes right, thought ffx-2 did have spells it didnt have any summons, just the ones yuna had to kill.. so does anyone know how the jobs work in this game? are they changable like in x2? or are they static? and is there a summoner? and a blackmage? i havent read up on this game at all reele just looked at the site when the jp one was first set and i remember seeing the concept are for some blonde chick who looked like a summoner and that slutty bunny chick looked like a blm. but srsly anyone know? |

one thing ive found hard playing rpgs since ffxi, is where an encounter with an enemy means a 5 second + interlude where the music changes and you go from running round to standing waiting your turn to attack. actually found it very difficult to put up with while replaying old games, i miss the 100% real time ness thing |

I bet it's not nearly as expensive to import from Europe, especially since he's in the European video game localization business. I actually just made that up but if I'm wrong i'll just go "Hurf Durf" |

I meant it's better to like everything you buy rather than waste money on a game you hate. |

Finally reserved my special edition one. For a long time I wasn't interested in this FF at all but then I remembered it's Final Fucking Fantasy, as long as it's better than piece of shit 9 I'm a happy camper. So I went and put down my $5. |

ff9 had no story, shitty characters(besides viv/freya), and the most ridiculously slow battle system in the series. However it did have spectacular cg movies, the addictive choco digging game, and a fun ability learning system. throwbacks =/= greatness last boss mentioned nowhere in the game until the moment you fight him, who QUOTES YODA BEFORE YOU FUCKING FIGHT HIM =/= greatness @whisp those bows look nice =o |
