After looking at random movies and screenshots for upcoming RPGs (namely FFIII DS and Children of Mana) I was curious to see if people changed the names of characters in games that were already out, like previous FFs and such. When I was a kid, my friends and I always named the sprite in Secret of Mana the same thing. For what reason, I don't know. But the name we used stuck, and I have no idea if that character even had a default name at this point. But as I got older, I stopped changing the names of characters all the time, except for games like FF1 or the DQ games.

And if you do change the names of characters, or have a particular name that you use often in RPGs, what is it? The sprite's name was Zookie. lol

Different main character names for different playthroughs, keeps separate save files organized.

I sometimes change the main char to James, oddly enough being my name.

The only other one I remember was changing amarant in ff9 to Homo, so that he would say as his opening line "I am the Flaming Homo", but that was 2nd time through lol

For games like Tactics and Disgaea, since in tactics games you can include most of your friends on a team. For most straight up RPGs though, I keep the names.

Depends on the game, if they have a name set I usually leave it, if not I set my name cause I'm a gigantadork and I've been doing that since Dragon Warrior 1 lol

i thought about changing the names of the characters in the RPG's i played.. i just always was too lazy.

my brothers always changed them though.. dont remember the names now.

I don't usually change them so that when i talk to people about them i don't use the names i changed instead of the characters actual names

I've been changing some to Armani after I started playing FFXI 'cause it stuck for me.

Before I really got into RPGs, I'd change the name to something different. Then when I got more into them I just left them be as they were.

I hate on FFX that they give you the option of changing Tidus' name. I hate how in the FMVs that they never could say his name, and in X-2 they're always saying "him" or something like that. Just bugs me.

on a side note, I dislike most rpgs where the main character never talks. To me this equates to no personality. I liked the Breath of Fire series as a kid, but I hated how the main character never spoke. I know the point is to make you feel like you are the main character, and everyone is speaking directly to you, the player, but it just makes me feel like I'm controlling a retard.

I noticed that 4/10 on VIII.

For a while, I thought Squall was a mute.

I loved how they didn't have a problem putting his name into Kingdom Hearts. And thank god they don't prompt you to change Sora's name for that.

Agreed, I liked Squall more than Cloud.

And Rinoa was a slut. I only whored her out in the last battle cause her dog was awesome, not her.

yeah cloud was a douche too. he was kinda the alpha-douche, who all other light-haired emo-ish douchey FF7-present day main characters evolved from.
