Post subject:  Opinions on Warrior...

I posted this on allakhazam :

I'm considering playing Dwarf Warrior. One of my friend got into open beta, so I could try it a bit, and I find it quite fun to play. But, from what I have read through the community warrior forums, many people thinks warrior is useless or not as good as other jobs. They seem to be quite outdamaged by rogues and also have trouble holding hate when they have to tank.

So, I'd like some inputs from people who have played warrior for a while in the closed beta. Is Warrior a viable job ?

Feel free to post your comments.

Link me to who said warrior is a useless job.

EVERYTHING i've seen says it's the #1 most essential job in PTs

Warrior doesn't suck and they are giving their taunt ability back. In a pt situation, warrior is much more important than any other tank ability jobs. If you want fun and dmg, I'd say rogue is probably better though.

I haven't seen any high lvl content, but the past few days, I've seen a lot of hunters and they do seem pretty fun to play too.

I'm a lvl 16 almost 17 undead War and i use a 2h sword and i'm telling u i haven't seen some one out dmg me yet. i killed a 19 druid when i was lvl 15 np. And everytime i join a pt i hit something once it's on me till it's dead. i was duoing with a warlock yesterday and was doing better then a 4 person pt that were higher lvl but full of priests and rouges. but i think war with 1h swords and shield have trouble holding hate then ones that deal good dmg.

P.S i Crit for like 150 dmg mwhahaha

Higher level, Warrior is definitely viable and helpful for a party. Keep in mind that gear makes a big difference and most people in the Open Beta haven't payed all that much attention to it, nor do they know a good thing when they see it. Noobs :)

As far as damage, all hail the Fire Mage, King of Damage. Just like the BLM in FFXI, a mage can pretty much pull aggro whenever they like. The good mages know how to deal with it.

Last thought here... this is not FFXI. You do not have to have a tank who is exceptionally good at holding aggro to have a successful party. Yes, that is definitely one route you can go, but, most of the jobs have ways of controlling the crowds. Gotta get over this ffxi concept of forming an "ideal party"; there are a lot of options for how to set things up in WoW and they remain viable thru the whole game.

Warriors are nice, they have some nice abilities like thunder clap and all that good stuff, good dps with 2 handers and PBAE fear that's handy in pvp (doesn't last very long though) and hamstring for fleeing mobs or fleeing players

BTW, what's up with Alliance and all the damn paladins... each time I see an alliance, 8 / 10 times it's a damn pld. Last nite I was fighting in Hillsbrad Farm some allliance that were ganking ppl trying to do quests (they hid in hillsbrad townhall and when ppl went in to try to kill magistrate and all that, they would gank them.) At first it was a mage and a pld, then a mage and 2 plds and later a third paladin arrived. Every time in chat it's all about OMG there's a lvl 30 Paladin. When I go around solo and stumble into alliance it's a duo of paladin and something else, solo paladin, or 2 paladins... Really annoying when its 2 paladins though, they just heal each other + Divine shield. Damn Paladins have 9 lives each >.<; ; They suck 1v1 though, they can last a looooong time, they just have crappy dmg.

dont buy into the rumors, there are no useless jobs in this game. play what you want, you will get parties regardless.

Warrior's were great until the recent patch with changes to taunt. It'll be interesting to see how they "change the defensive stance" as they say they will in the next patch to make aggro management much better. As of now, doing BRS/BRD and the other 50+ instances is impossible.

Keep in mind that most of the best stuff is bind on pickup. Kinda like the WoW equivalent of EX items. You see a lot more of this as you get into doing instances.

Aside from that, you should be able to find something good at the Auction House. Maybe you can something good as a loot drop, but not all that likely, especially if you like to solo. The stuff off the NPC vendors is crap.

From the little bit I played, I didn't have to buy anything, I got all equipment from loot. Well, I only played to lev 9 so this might not be true for the entire game heh.

For the most part you will only buy stuff off the AH till about lvl 40, then thereafter all the good gear really comes from quest rewards and instance drops (Blue Items). If you want to start saving up for your mount early, and are melee based, I'd really only use the AH to buy weapons/shields, as they make the biggest difference for the price. The rest, try to save up as much as possible and get most of your great crafted or from quest rewards from lvl's 1-40. Saving up for a mount is a pita if you have a tendency to spend spend spend :D.
