Post subject:  Looking for general information

Hey guys,

I have some RL friends that are probably going to be playing this when it comes out. I haven't had any real interest in playing, but I may get a copy, just to mess around with them at times for fun. So I have a few questions for those of you who have been playing for a bit now.

I'm thinking that I'll be sticking with the whole mage thing (Priest/Mage/Warlock), and I know that Humans can be those three jobs. But I was looking around on the website, and there's like no information that talks about what races are good for what. Are the different races purely cosmetic (Aside from what classes they have access to)?

Peejo said that alchemy was nerfed. Is this true? 'cause as a magic user, I dunno what kind of tradeskills would be useful, if alchemy sucks.

And finally... How will the whole server thing work? Are we able to choose a server, or it will it be based upon location? It'd be ideal if all of us from this server made accounts on the same server in WoW.

So yah... Any good links you have for a breakdown of the different races/classes would be cool. I'm still not sure if I'd even do this, since I don't really want to shell out another 13 bucks a month. So any additional information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

It doesn't seem like there's significant difference between races and classes. The only thing I notice is that you probably want to be a gnome if you want to be a mage. I was pting with K's gnome mage and a human mage. K has a lot more mp than the human. All cloth wear classes are low on ac (armor) anyways, so hp really isn't too important (you'll pretty much die if you got ganked).

All tradeskills can benefit everyone. But if you want it for money reason, I'd suggest go with collecting professions (herbalist, mining, skinning). We'll probably go with mining, tailoring, skinning, herbalism to start then switch to mining, tailoring, engineering, enchanting. When you switch, you do lose all of the points so make sure you've done what you want before you take the switch.

The only thing I know about servers is unless you have a US billing address, you won't be able to play on the same server as your US friends. But I doubt that's your case so you should be fine.

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com has a pretty good page for the race/class/profession etc.

One thing I don't feel too good about is their servers hardware. We've been having a lot of issues for lag, server reboot, server rollback etc. They said they are overstuffed the servers for stress testing purpose. I can't say I am 100% trust them on that. We'll probably end up paying only 1 month to see how it goes. If it's still unplayable or you have to wait in queue to log in then we'll definately cancel our accts after a month.

Here's the exact link for races... http://worldofwarcraft.com/info/races/racial-bonuses.html

What Peejo said is basically right. Gnomes get an Int bonus which means more MP and better chance for crits on magic attacks. Gnomes make the best Mages (WoW version of BLM). Another possible choice is Human. They have a Spirit bonus. Spirit is MP and HP regen.

None of these racial differences make a huge difference. Mostly, you should choose based on job availability and visual preference. Of course, that means there will me mostly Humans as all the other races are rather grotesque. There are a few exceptions where race makes a difference. For example, if you wanna use a gun as a hunter, a Dwarf is better than a Night Elf.

Thanks, guys.

I was thinking Human, yah, but I know that on times in FFXI, I really wish I would have chosen to be a Tarutaru.

As for making money through the gathering tradeskills... I think time will tell whether or not that remains a viable option, 'cause if the markets get saturated people doing it, it may not be that great of a way to make money, anymore.

It's a great way to make money on the Closed Beta servers. Not very many people want to go gather stuff up, and you always need way more than you can gather reasonably quick.
