evil behavior, as in bad behavior, arises soon after the context arises. like, credit card fraud wasn't evil in 1700 but today it's considered evil.

If all evil is learned, then where did the first evil person originate?

Thats a good point. Like someone else already said evil is subjective. One person learns killing is evil the other learns that, that person is evil (terrorists). Conflicting views and one kills another (not all killing is evil either, i.e. hunting to survive). Hunting is how they learned to kill and then they for some reason killed that other person (So many different ways, hunting accident, sacrifice, love triangle?). The killer enjoys the adrenaline rush he felt and kills another and another to get that same adrenaline rush. There is no way to know, but thats the best example I could come up with.

I look at it this way. When you are a child (when I say child I mean very young) you aren't afraid of things like spiders. People who fear dogs weren't born fearing dogs. Somewhere along their life they had a bad experience with dogs or spiders that brought life to their fear. For example, there was a psychologist who did a study where he gave a child a white rat. He would let the child play with the rat and the child was happy. Then the psychologist would make a loud noise to make the child cry. He made a loud noise every time he gave the child the white rat. After a while the child would cry whenever he was given the white rat. His fear didn't stop there, he would cry when he saw other white things, white dog, white bird, etc... I would have to assume the things people consider evil to be along the same lines.

Feep
Just because you get in a fight or steal something from someone doesn't make you evil. Humans make mistakes and fall victim to our emotions, feeling anger or jealousy doesn't make you evil. What makes you evil is enjoying hurting others or doing things you know are wrong. Hurting others just to make yourself happy. Things along those lines thats my take on evil anyway.

Yeah, well, I don't remember specifically, but I'm sure beating the crap out of my brother brought me great pleasure at the time. And it did for years to come. 8)

I'm not sure

for people that believe in neither take the following cases

ex. Helping someone cross a street (blind, old, etc.), then going on with your life.

helping someone, when you want nothing in return, and as long as it is seen as a positive way is just a good thing.

I think evil is inherently viewed here or in similar scenarios:

blackmail - holding this particular psychological power over another individual/s I do not see as a good thing, (unless you are trying to protect yourself or family and you have something such as mafia secrets to keep your enemies at bay)

I have never heard of blackmail being used amongst animals in the animal kingdom so I think good and evil exists in our world, it's not all just "actions" so to speak.

honestly i believe you are born complete bias of either at conception. Studdies of babies being influenced in the whoom have shown that developmental behavior changes from child to child by attention it's shown, how nourturing you are to the baby, life going on around it, ect.

And (too late to scroll to say how do you teach bad), you can definatly teach bad to a child. Children are sponges, taking in everything from thier surroundings. If the child sees his father beating the shit out of his mother, that is going to influence that child. Every little thing parents and other people that are around your child influences it's developement.

I think when a child is born, it only contains it's instincts that are coded into us. The basic things like the need to eat (why a child doesn't need to be taught to breast feed or take from a bottle which is just mimicing breast feeding), ect. And is neither good nor evil. Just a blank slate, waiting to be enscribed on.

Not to mention, how can you even truely know if a child is "born good" or "born evil", if it's unable to produce any actions that could be viewed as "good" or "evil" until it's already been subjected to outside forces for months/years? Do you think a baby that is 1 day old can have the idea to stab you with a knife because you stole his pacifier? i doubt it, insticts for the child is to cry to call attention from his mother to fix the situation. So i definatly can't see how a child can be born evil, and in the absence of evil thier can be no good. They are ideals that contrast eachother created by mentally developped human beings, which children are not.

And if life had no "evil" there honestly would be no "good", there would just be life.

helping an old lady cross the street is a good act, but it's not true you get nothing in return. you get a wonderful sense of happiness knowing that you make other people happy. to some people, that's their purpose in life.
