Quote: There will be virtually nothing left to fish from the seas by the middle of the century if current trends continue, according to a major scientific study.
Stocks have collapsed in nearly one-third of sea fisheries, and the rate of decline is accelerating. Writing in the journal Science, the international team of researchers says fishery decline is closely tied to a broader loss of marine biodiversity. But a greater use of protected areas could safeguard existing stocks. The full article, which is enormous, is here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/6108414.stm I blame the faux vegetarians who eat fish. |

Don't fish keep the ocean clean? If there are no more fish all the seas of the world will look like New Jersey beaches. |

Shrimp actually clean up the waters. But we assholes eat them too. And actually. Believe it or not 70% of oxygen is generated by plant life underwater. We cut off the ocean we cut off the entire world. And 4 billion asians lol |

And 4 billion asians lol Alot of shrimp that clean the waters are much smaller than what we usually eat. Alot of the problem with their extinction is that fish un-native to those waters are transplanted and eat the shrimp. |

yea its basically photosynthetic algae and bacteria that provide oxygen and species like coral that help keep it clean. fish don't do much in terms of keeping the ocean clean, but they are a great signal that the water is being kept clean. |

Yeah I really don't eat seafood myself much if at all. On the rare occasion I do eat seafood it is usually crab. I do know alot of people who eat seafood though. I am not surprised that they think the supply of fish is going to run out. We will have to control what areas can and can't be fished, the same thing is pretty much done with hunting animals on land. |
