iPods are the biggest gimmick ever. I think that mp3 players rock, but releasing a new one that everyone needs to get every 6 months is absurd.

I have one of the original 15 gig ones, and I have had no need whatsoever to buy any new version of them.

I'd like to get an Ipod for my car, but the tape-deck sound quality doesn't quite do it for me (I don't even have a tape deck anyways), and I've heard the radio adapter is not crystal clear 100% of the time. I'll take the sound quality of CDs over the convenience of an Ipod.

mostly, I want an iPod simply because I have a TON of music, and get tired of swapping out SD cards with my current MP3 player, which only has 512mb of storage without a card, then I have about eight 1gig cards that are all full and constantly being switched out (I have on my computer about 72Gigs of music last I checked)

Also, I do temp work, so alot of times I'm in work environments where I need to have something to null out the boring work I usually do (Temp work meaning I do basic office work for different offices and companies in my area.)

And alot of times that means standing at a copy machine, or in a library, or sitting at a desk without much movement or entertainment for 9 - 12 hours a day, depending on where I'm working.

Also, this thread TOTALLY didn't turn into what I thought it would be, which is funny screenshots of the iPod engraving page with innapropriate things engraved in the iPod.

ahahhahahahhahah

edit: to qualify...

You say that they're gimmicks because everyone has to upgrade every 6 months, but then you say you've had an original (which has to be about 6 years old) and don't feel the need to upgrade. Can't you see the contradiction there?

I have an Alpine CDA 9856 deck, with an IPOD adaptor cable that is in my glove box. I plug my IPOD into the connector and control it from the Alpine deck. It works really well and the sound quality is awesome. I really can't notice the difference from CD and IPOD that way. It even plays at the same sound level as a CD. I've had it for almost a year now and I have no complaints. I really hate the I TRIP radio adapters...a lot.

This is the deck I have. I paid something like $210-220 for it installed with the IPOD adaptor cable (my friend got me a deal, but not a huge one). The price listed on their site is bullshit lol.

And I love my IPOD! I bring it with me everywhere lol. I have the Black 60 gig. I don't plan on upgrading at all. The features on the newer ones that come out are no big deal to me. I rarely use mine for anything other than music anyways.

ive had an ipod since the fourth gen, that was the first modle that people actualy started buying, all touch, no buttons. best thing EVER.

apple backs up their product extremley well, everything has bugs and flaws, and apple realizes that.

ive had 5 ipods, and ive paid for 2.

4th gen lasted me a long as time, untill i fried the harddrive, took it in, they gave me a new 15 gig (before the 20 came out) one, then the clicky wheel came out, i then purposley fried my drive, took it in, sawpped it out and upgraded from the 4thgen15g to the click20g, freee of charge. after a while the headphone jack wasnt working, took it in to see if it was just something loose, i walked out of the store with a brand new one, free of charge. the video came out, and i sold my click. bought a 30gb video, and ive had it since.

edit:i dont use it for movies, but i do have home video's, over 3500 songs and everything i need incase my computer decides to crash. and i still have a little less than 1/2 space left.

thanks for the info. maybe I'll look into something like this if I ever have enough money for an iPod, a new CD deck, and installation. that's probably never lol. but I can dream.

Mine was given to my by my grandparents who got it as some promotional thing when they bought one of the new VW bugs. Neither of them are very tech-savvy, so that's why I ended up with it. I know that doesn't change my comment much, but I thought I'd add it.

I do still think that they've come out with way too many of them. And while I may have had a single one for like 5 years, or whatever, there are many others who do feel the need to upgrade to the latest one, because it's a bit smaller and comes in a new color.

Madi, why the heck do you have five? :p

Ipod is probably the only thing i have that is from Apple.
I've had 3 ipods, one 60gig that i traded in for a broken Nano.
Then i got another one as replacement.

Ever since i bought the iRiver Clix, i haven't touched an ipod.

Playsforsure.

My dad gave me a blue iPod mini for my birthday a year and a half ago. It's got "Guitar gods live forever in MP3" engraved on the back. I've had to send it back to the factory once and the wheel used to give me shit, but I put that bitch in line.

Will there ever be a generation that doesnt have the built in battery? Im not about to drop 350 bucks (80gb) on a product thats gunna hold me down by the balls like that. Also why are the 8gb nano and 30gb ipod the same price... lol

and another thing. When will some people start competing with apple over this market. Im so fucking sick of these dumb commercials.

Because nothing comes close to Apple. Thank God they've got a firm patent on that wheel navigation.

I couldn't put 250 songs in that.

in 8 gigs? I have 3000 or so songs (many of which are progrock songs that range from 10-45 minutes) and I only filled up about 17 gigs.

I meant I couldn't possibly need that much music to listen to. Maybe 250 was an extreme low but seriously thousands just seems pointless.

I used to have a mini when I didn't think I needed alot. Then I starting listening to alot of music and I find that 4 gigs is too little. 8 might be enough though. I have alot of music and Movies/TV shows on my ipod too though.

Yarr bought me an iPod nano for my birthday last year and I never thought I'd want one, but it turns out it's been a good thing for me. I have a tape deck in my '96 Neon and I connect my iPod to the tape deck with one of those adapters. It's not the greatest sound, but it beats fumbling with a discman in the car. It's gotten me through many many long drives and does wonders for me at the gym.

I agree that iPod does not need to continue to come out with new versions, however, I think that they're kicking themselves in the asses for not make the original nano more durable. Mine is all scratched up, and I guess the new ones are more resistant to scratching.
