Did your changes you did a month, or whatever, back help stop the botters from creating random accounts/advertisements? I haven't been paying much attention. I have a friend who uses phpbb that is also receiving similar annoyances, and I was curious if I could give them any advice.

Coincidentally, I'm pretty sure they find out about the forums via webcrawlers/spiders, so if you were to remove the link to this forum on the main yarrthepirate.com page, I bet you'd see a lot less spam traffic.

I've had a random message board up for awhile that I talk with some RL friends on, and stuff. It's not linked anywhere, and we've not had troubles with random people signing up for accounts.

Anyway, any info would be appreciative, as I'd like to throw this guy a bone as to what they can do to stop the spam accounts.

Thanks!

me and yarr have just been switching back and forth manually deleting accounts.
Yarr added the visual confirmation, and it did get rid of a couple of bot accounts, it went from 15 fake accounts to about 7-8. Which isn't bad at all.

That's good. I hear there's a mod that removes the website field from registration and denies account creation from bots that attempt to still supply it through a script.

Some useful info here: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=427852

Thanks for the info!

I'm surprised the bots haven't taken to PMing. At least, I haven't gotten any.
