Post subject: | hdtv dissapointment |
whats up guys, some of you may have seen the pic i posted in the irl thread showing my new 360 and hdtv, here's the pic again: http://www.dirkeffertz.com/new_toys.jpg the model is a 26" 720p samsung lcd hdtv: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 4703182075 I'd like to say first off that when i got the cable connected to it and effed around with the picture that the settings didn't do much to fine tune the image and no matter what setting i had it on there was still a lot of graininess and flicker and trails/blurriness when there was movement on the screen etc. I was sort of expecting the normal cable to come in like that and look like crap because it used to look like crap anyway on my 20 year old tube tv. But, I was kinda expecting for at least the hd movies channels to come in really awesome and vibrant.. I was less than impressed. Now after having it for 3 days, I noticed some discoloration in the picture, it's less noticable in certain picture modes.. but when i have it set to movie mode and the brightness is dimmed down a bit i can clearly see what looks like a ghost or smoke in a small (or a few small areas) on the screen. At first I thought I was going crazy and that it was just the angle of the tv screen or some kind of glare i was getting from somewhere.. but it's neither of these, cuz even in my room with the 'no signal' black screen and the lights all out I can still clearly see it. So now I don't know what my options are.. i dropped over 900dollars after tax on this thing and it looks shittier than my 20 yr old 100 dollar piece of shit tube tv, I think the box got taken by the garbage men, so I'm not even sure if/how I can return it, also, being that this is my first hdtv experience it makes me a little leary of just exchanging it for another of the same model in hopes that something will be different/better. Also, being that everyone buys a tv for the super bowl and then exchanges it, I doubt they're gonna give me some kind of cash back or store credit. I don't get it, I researched everything, spent like a month looking at tvs, finally made the purchase I think was going to be a sound buy, and now I'm all bummed out and stressed. Even the 360 has graininess and blurinness and flicker. Has anyone had any similar problems, or can offer me some advice on where to go from here? It'd be much appreciated. Thanks! Jim |

Sounds like you got a bad TV. I have never had issues with a LCD being blurry or grainy. I would think an exchange would be a good idea. I am assuming all the cables are correctly connected and the TV doesn't have some kind of retarded default configuration. If they gave you another LCD TV, I would be shocked if the other one had the same problem. Didn't the floor model look fine at the store? The fact that the HD TV stations and the 360 both look like crap should tell you its the TV of course. So yeah just get an exchange, you got a lemon probably. |

thing is he doesnt have the box... i'd go up to customer service and see if you can just bring your receipt/user manuals/and other proofs of purchase. hopefully you can exchange it, because that sucks. now im scared of purchasing my tv :-X btw, im goin for either the 40" cheaper LCD from Samsung, or the 46/50" DLP from samsung like kluya |

Well if he hasn't had it that long.. you might be ok with just the receipt. Call the place and check. Depends on the return/exchange policy of the place you bought it from. |

Yeh, I plan on calling bestbuy tonight when I get home from work and seeing what the exchange/return policy is. It did look really good in the store, though I thought that might've just been some awesome digital cable station they had it hooked up to. The graininess/flicker/blurriness doesn't bother me as much as the faded smoke cloud in the picture. I'm hoping I can just exchange it, and save the box this time, and if it happens again I'll just get my money back. Orz 4 days with the thing and already problems ; ; it got a great rating on cnet and everyone else I know with a samsung has raved about it, I know for a fact that it wasn't near any heat or magnets or direct sunlight or dropped, or any kind of human error of my own.. I hooked up the cable and components just as outlined in the manual. |

Bestbuy is so stingy on returns but if you have the reciept and stuff you might have a chance, hell if its not that old they better take it back, oh and as a note anytime you buy electronics from them get the 1-4 years service plan, i always do, and ive got the new CD player in my truck i did't pay a dime for =D |

Best Buy sucks donkey balls with service. I have a good friend who sat with a broken 60" Sony TV for months fighting with Best Buy non-stop. It literally took them months of coming over and not being able to fix his TV (blaming stuff on him), before he got a replacement. They were also very flaky throughout the entire process. Samsung has full 1 year warranty's on their TV's. Their customer service is so-so. Some people have great experiences while others have horror stories. I haven't dealt with them myself yet. I know all you need is your reciept. Samsung should send a tech to your house to look at the TV if you call them. Try it out. I agree Costco ftw on a local B&M purchase. That or Sears. |

Now would be the perfect time to find and install the link of Yarr's "wonderful" experience with Best Buy when he was getting an HDTV or monster cables or something. It's a virtual "how-to" on dealing with those assholes! *edit (found it) http://yarrthepirate.com/v-web/bulletin ... hlight=buy The sooner you take your set up there to the store for an exchange Jim the better! |

I had the same problem with the first HDTV i bought. It's apparently some sort of defect with the screen, usually caused from excess nonstop use (such as a floor model display at most electronic places) I had the same problem, with a very similar TV (Sanyo's version of the same TV actually) and took it back, without box, to Conns...it was no problem for them to order me a new one, got it that following day, and it worked 100% fine. I dunno what the return policy for your store is, but Conn's doesn't care apparently about the box issue, and even informed me about the defect and were happy to exchange. Best of luck! |

i brought over a few friends and had them look at it and they were all like "you're crazy that's what it's supposed to look like" so I chalked it up to me just having some weird misdirected buyer's remorse and felt like I needed a much mroe superior product than what i got for what I paid. But now, I'm pretty happy with it. gogo hdtv ![]() |

lol ok cool. SD stuff on my HDTV looks like such shit I can't even explain...but HD looks unbelievably good. I now only use my HDTV for HD stuff or 480P DVDs, and use my old TV for SD stuff. I need to move my 32" SDTV back into my bedroom...fucking thing is sooo bulky, weighs 200 pounds (no exaggeration), and has razor sharp plastic pieces on the bottom that can't be avoided when lifting it. It's seriously the worst thing to move ever. |
