so im hunting for a laptop.. i have almost 2grand to spend on this sucker, but i want one that functions looks classy and... has a full size keyboard.

i found this one, http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopp ... 00t_series i was stoked as i was customizing it on hp.com, maximizing my options, with my specifications it came to about $1,800.

i was ready to place my order and then i noticed the graphics card. why would hp make Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 the only option?

anyway, now im starting from scratch, and i am having the hardest time finding something affordable, can ANYONE help me out?

basicaly what im looking for is to be able to play ff away from home. wirelessly, like at starbucks or something.

FFXI is a pain to keep a stable connection with wireless. I know when I'm out of town I have to use my company's VPN in order to stay on for any longer than 30 seconds.

Just a little bit of input from me.. lol

As far as graphics go... it's an old ass Dx8 game so it works just as good on an old 9500Pro as it does with a newer card.

I have ffxi on my laptop. My laptop doesn't have a full-sized keyboard though. I never use the number pad even when I'm not on my laptop.. unless I'm fishing. Compact keyboard setting > full-size.

hmm i was just reading reviews and the intel forums on the X3100 and some guy had troubles running CS:source and WoW on it, he had to dim down the res and w/e and it still lagged, i want top be able to maximize everything, you think this top could handle that?

if you want a gaming machine don't buy a laptop. You aren't going to see nice graphics cards in laptops because the most stressful task they're designed for is movie editing, probably.

edit: though macbooks run games pretty well apparently.

What laptops have you been looking at? lol

My work laptop have a PCIe Radeon based GPU with 512 ram and runs WoW better then my home PC. (Athlon 64 3500+ Radeon X850XT OC'd to 560/580)

last i knew, ffxi didnt run on a mac. and ponuh, im not looking forhardcore gaming, i already have that with my desktop, now im looking for casual all around everything on the go. and after going to bestbuy and calling hp support, i have found the right one, apparently the dv9500t doesnt offer nvidia graphics cause it simply cant, it was made for space, not performance. the man i spoke with also said it was made for movie lovers. but after doing a comparison, ive found the dv9000t
to fit my needs,

with a 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600 i cant imagine having trouble running ffxi with full res. plus after playing with the display, it is sleek, classy not to mention thin and light, and the screen is crazy clear. after making my customizations, i came out to about $1,500. its perfect.

just check theDemo

but hey, if you got something better... let me know. haha thanks guys

ohh well ofcourse, however, getting a mac to run windows would be a complete waste of money.

I've been using my Macbook Pro 17" for over a year to play FFXI. It runs windows, so I just boot up windows to play.

And you can get a regular Macbook for way under $2000. But I dont think you could even get a 15" macbook PRO for anything less than $2400 if I remember correctly. And the regular macbooks probably wouldn't run FFXI that well.
