ok so there are like 10000000 digital cameras in the world. And the only thing I really know to look for in a camera is like size, Megapixels, and screen size. Anyone have any suggestions? I wanna get my g/f one for her birthday and I'd like it to be small, and she likes red... so I'd like it to be red too. but it doesn't really matter. I'm just wondering if there's anything i should know before going out and buying one. Like what brands are better than others, etc.

thanks

There is already a thread on this but after 3 1/2 yrs working in a photo lab Canon Powershot.

Canon > Nikon > Fuji > Kodak > Sony

http://www.flickr.com/cameras/
is a great site to see pics from the different cameras. Try to stick in the 5-7mp range. Also make sure it has a Li-ion battery. Screw spending all that # on AA's

yeah I guess i hear that canon rocked face. But Sony has something that I'm pretty interested in.

http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras ... l-img&ar=o

the lady likes small, and red, and she's only gonna use it for snap shots and stuff. Think this is a solid choice for that? Even though sony ranks pretty low on the list, they try to make up for it by style, and as far as compact and stylish goes this seems like a decent buy. and yeah I;m willing to spend that much on a digi camera, I make good money for a kid in college

I've always been a fan of the canon elph series. And the quality they produce has always amazed me. I would suggest http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-sd1000-black/4505-6501_7-32365159.html?ar=o&tag=pdtl-list

I just purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ6
I found for the price, the features are absolutely fantastic. Low delay, optical image stabilizer, and one of the best zoom capabilities in its class. I take a ton of photos and I like it more than my canon and my old casio.

Necrobump! So I'm finally getting a digi camera for the g/f, probably today or this week. And we've doing a little research and you guys are right, Canon is probably the best buy. So the one that we REALLY want is this one

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Canon-Po ... tDetail.do

And it has a little brother, the 850, which is like 40ish dollars cheaper. It's the same camera but with a smaller screen and ugly buttons. I think I'd rather pay for a nicer looking camera. ANYWAYS, one thing that I'm skeptical about is the size. There are other Canon models that are much smaller (Like the SD1000 Hobbes posted) that might be much more convenient to carry around while my g/f is in mexico snapping shots. Thing is, smaller camera = less features. Like you sacrifice a few MP (big deal) and Optical Image Stabilization (which I'm a fan of). I've also found the best deals at Circuit City and don't really wanna go shopping on Black Friday so I'll probably get it today or tommorow.

Any opinions on Small Vs. Larger? Image Stabilization? That camera I'm looking at? Again, any opinions are helpful (Even Ponuh's)

there's this asshole i used to work for who's like a hardcore kid although you'd think he was a frat boy because of the way he acts and talks, brah was like his favorite expression and i wanted to stab him in the neck everytime he used it. I think I actually heard him say "sick burn brah" to someone sometime, i was using it sarcastically, although it was still pretty funny... just sucks to have a crappy experience and have people make fun of you about it...

lol While I didn't read his initial post in his rant thread at first I did eventually read it and then made a post in this thread. He states he was in a rush for work, if you're going to buy something nice and expensive (tho he brags about having a lot of money for a college student which makes me feel less bad for his situation) don't be stupid and buy it in a rush. They were both at fault. The store for fucking with his purchase and him/his girlfriend for leaving without even checking if they got the fucking correct camera or if the camera is even in the box.

I don't have a lot of money but if I'm buying something nice for my girlfriend I don't fucking cheap out and try to buy shit in a rush just because its on fucking sale. He asked for it. :-P

It wasn't like I was rushing to buy the camera. I had time to stand around and compare cameras and eventually buy it. I DIDN'T plan on arguing with management for 2 hours. The plan was to go buy party supplies for my g/f's going away party and then eat after buying the camera. We ended up not being able to do that and I just had to drive straight to work. But it shouldn't if you're late for work or not, it's bullshit. It was just even more frustrating because I would have resolved the issue by not leaving until I had my camera, but I had to go. I guess next time I'll take Remey's advice and take out a 5 hour chunk of my day to buy an ipod, sound great to me.

Also, when you buy new electronics it's either sealed or it's a policy to check the box before the store sells it to you. It's not my job to do inventory and check their boxes. If they sell me a camera, they better damn well be sure they sold me the actual product. I'm sorry I left the store, I actually have never felt the need to open a box and count the items to make sure they're not screwing me. I'm not shopping at a Bazaar in India for fuck's sake. Then to go back and be accused of stealing, retarded.

lol cry some more dood.

Next time make the fuck sure you buy the initial camera you were handed and liked. If they tried to push something else on to you, tell the bitch to you're not going to buy that camera you're buying the one you handed to her. If not you don't buy the camera, fuck the sale cause its already not worth it if you're in a rush. Instead you roll over and end up getting fucked and come here and cry about it for a pity party.

Oh she was really "Pushing" something else on me. I'll be sure to "tell the bitch" to get the pretty one I was looking at. If I threw a fit because I didn't get the box I wanted then I'd be the asshole customer everyone hates dealing with. But I just "rolled over" and bought the empty box.

Give me a fucking break Remey, lol.
