Ok i'll try and explain as best as I can. Heres the thing. Im building an SLI pc for my sisters boyfriend. So far i've had nothing but trouble. At first I noticed it was saying on the bios that SLI memory wasn't being detected. Technically since its a new pc, no drivers have been installed yet. So i'm not worried about it so much. The minimum requirement is 500 w for the graphics cards, and I made sure to get a 600watt psu to cover that. But my problem is, is the cd rom drive and hardrive to detect both at the same time.

For some reason i can only get one to work at any given time. I have to physically disconnect one for the other to work. What could i possibly be missing? Its getting annoying. I'm connecting them but for some reason they just won't be picked up on the bios. Any one have any remote idea? If you need me to elaborate more please let me know lol. I'll even take pictures to show you.

I think it may be as simple as a jumper setting issue. Brb lol

Okay i'll stick to the point for now, some of the new hard drives (IDE not SATA) have a different jumper setting compared to older drives, you might have to check exactly how it's described on the drive itself. If indeed you are using IDE and not SATA then you have to look on the drive for the jumper settings. Things to look for is master, slave, cable select & master with slave. If you are using a single IDE cable for 2 devices, then you must set one device to be master (or master with slave) and the other slave. If the device has both options, master and master with slave, selecting master (not master with slave) when a slave is present will not work. If you are going to use 2 separate IDE cables, one for each device, make both Masters (not master with slave). Most drives use obvious abbreviations.

I think you got what i meant lol. I didn't bother complicating it. But yes as you said i'm using one IDE cable and for some reason its just not agreeing with me.

sound like kioto answer so look at the HDD for master jumper and I would put cd-rom on slave jumpers if your using one IDE cables for those two.

Set your HDD jumpers to "Master" and CD-ROM to Cable Select. Shouldn't give you any trouble after that. There should be diagrams on the drives.

Cable select is tricky, i suggest not using cable select unless you use it on both drives, if i remember correctly cable select can cause different things with different cables, but mostly it will make the drive that's at the end of the cable (black connection) the master and the middle (gray connector) the slave... Blue plug would into the motherboard.

When i put my second HD in my roomates HP it had 2 IDE cables the HD was on one as master and the CD rom was on its own as master.

I'm gonna have to say the jumper would have to be the issue if the hard drive isnt toast.

You need a x64 bit cpu and a x64 bit operating system. Toy also need to make sure your bios supports 4gb of ram.

This is the specific error i'm getting when i try to boot of the cd and and start loading windows on the the new computer.
d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup\setup.c.

Anyone familiar with that? I get the strong feeling that its the harddrive that i have. Supposed to be new but whatever, i have the feeling its the harddrive thats been causing all these problems. To further prove my point i tried switching the harddrive and loading the OS on my pc and then my computer started doing the same problem.

I've done this countless times. And yes agree it shouldn't be this hard to install the OS, but this computer has done everything it could possible to be difficult.

Have you ever encountered that /d issue kioto. What do you think?

I have never seen it exactly like that. I've had a similar issue when i was first installing my SCSI drive back xp first came out, but i doubt it has anything to do with what's going on with you. I would really like to help you, but without proper computer specs and proper explanation of what you did and what you're still doing in detail will make it hard for us to say exactly what's going on. Consider the pm i sent you a while ago.

It was the hard drive. It was being read by the bios, but for some reason or another it just simply wasn't working. It seems the hd was almost completely corrupt.
