who cares lol.

The problem with that line is that people do care about it lol.

One thing for sure the format war needs to be put to an end. The market is only good for 1 format. Its pointless and a waste to make people pick between which movies they may or may like more.
Im hoping one of the formats overtops either. It doesn't matter who it just needs to stop.

So like. If an upconvert DVD player will play my regular DVDs at 1080p, why would I need a new format?

You actually can tell the difference in Upscaling a regular DVD to 1080p vs. a Blu-ray or HD-dvd that was made for 1080p. Plus the sound... :o

upconvert sucks... sure its better than regular DVD, but it isn't close to BD.

It makes me laugh to think that somehow you all have been possesed into buying this shit for your home theater setups, which is a term I use loosely considering most of you probably spent less than 5000 dollars on it all but assume that there's some great advantage to be reaped by upgrading.

well, the FCC will require all broadcasts starting in Jan '09 to be in HD, so you will have to get a HD receiver or a new TV to get public broadcasts... so upgrading is inevitable. Also some people just do this as a hobby, its a little more socially acceptable than lurking message boards and playing wow

all the tv's in my house are standard lol. i think i've only seen an HD television once or twice.. but soon i will have to buy an hdtv because these next-gen games get cut off on my tv..... you don't fuck with my vidya games!!!

the broadcasts are not required to be HD, but atleast digital signal oriented. analog antenaes are dead as of that date

Actually, it didn't cost very much at all. Besides, some of us enjoy watching upgraded video quality. It's totally worth it and a choice we make ourselves based on our interests. I think the word "possessed" is a a little harsh and I'm not sure if that's the term you're using "loosely". I'll agree that the marketing has been intense for both HD-DVD and Blue-Ray, but it is true quality when you see it. I'm usually very skeptical of new technology and was when this first came out, but after actually watching it, I agree that it is beautiful quality. I don't think it's worth getting all "Devil's Advocate" over it.

Like Yarr said, I own both formats so I don't care. I swear to god they both look the same. They both have good and bad movies. Reading about the format war makes me punch myself in the face. I'm ready for it to end either way.

I stopped buying movies for both formats and only rent via total access (saving $$ ftw). I do own 25 HD DVDs, so if they ever lose I'll have to buy an HDA35 when the price drops to nothing (as a backup player) and I'll be set.

This doesn't make any sense.

Anyways, it's not like this technology will ever match a proper theater experience. The movies don't get any better, there's just a short, temporary improvement until you forget and are sucked into the movie (on the other hand, most movies that these formats are good for are bad popcorn movies anyways)

I've become so obsessed with digital high definition picture quality that I notice imperfections like crazy in analog movie theaters. I don't even care for the theater experience anymore. The sound quality is what's great about movie theaters, and that gets drowned out by listening to fat people eat nonstop, assholes talking on their cellphone, annoying girls who have to talk through the whole movie, crying babies the stupid parents try to "shoosh" instead of dragging their ass out of there, etc. Movie theaters annoy me to no end these days.

I notice the improvement throughout the entire movie. It's just like how video games with good graphics look insanely better in high resolution. I get more sucked in the better it looks and sounds. I know for a fact I am not alone in this. Go to AVS forum and argue with everybody on there about it.

Also every good movie that comes to DVD period comes to HD DVD, Blu Ray or both these days.

I agree theater Movies are a joke now. I personally I have a Samsung 1080p LCD T.v And just resent ally got a Ps3 with HDMI and The quality will make you believe that there is in fact a god. lol nah really I go to the movies and the Picture looks soooo Fuzzy and lack of better words "Flashy" b/c it's projection. I'd go just for the fact it's a new movie and the atmosphere.

I just want them to just come to a decision or just pump out movies like there is no tomorrow.
