Keep in mind this is totally just for fun and entertainment. Im not looking to better my self. Im just looking to take a class, have some fun and meet new people. Heres a list of the classes that interest me. Also, most these courses wouldnt start for a few months. So I have some time to make my mind up. Anyway its fun to just look. I put down just a few. Theres TONS of courses Id like to take. These are just a few I picked. Drawing 1 - Art Fundamentals Progress through a variety of studio and home exercises focussed on drawing as a means of communication. The focus is alternatively the figure and the everyday world of objects. As the course progresses, the focus shifts to the figure in the environment. Fee includes $25 lab fee. (umm didnt i just read this?) Film Analysis Examine film from artistic, historical and commercial contexts. Students will be introduced to the elements of mise-en-scene, cinematography and editing and apply these to a discussion of character and theme. Students will have an opportunity to learn about film genres, especially how these genres develop in their social and aesthetic contexts. In addition, they will learn to critically evaluate and apply several approaches to film analysis. French Language and Culture, Introduction Develop basic French language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, while emphasizing oral communication. Learn how to communicate in simple day-to-day social situations, how to talk about yourself, your likes, dislikes and opinions, and to respond to basic inquiries. Cultural topics include Francophone singers/artists in Quebec, and cultural similarities/ differences. Criminology, Introduction to This course review the development of ciminology as a field of study. Develop a basic understanding of sociological theory and terminology relating to crime and deviance. Fear on Film Fear on Film is a trip into cinematic terror taught by a man who has devoted his life to the study and analysis of the horror movie. Through in-class discussion, debate, critique and film screenings, the students will learn how the horror film functions as morality tale, social criticism, dark fantasy, and a mirror reflecting man's most primal fears. Your instructor is Chris Alexander, writer for RUE MORGUE magazine, the top selling periodical of its kind in North America. Visit Chris's website at http://www.meridian-music.com. Please note that many of the screenings and clips deal with adult subject matter. Discretion is advised. Art History - Introduction Study the history of art throughout human history through with slide presentations and discussions group activities, brain storming exercises and gallery visits. Investigate the definition of art, its social, cultural, political and historical significance and art terminology and techniques. This chronological look at the history of art begins with the prehistoric goddess and ends with contemporary art and issues. |

Its actually quite exciting to look at stuff like this. Dispite the 200-300$ price tag these look like a win win type of deal. Fear on Film and Film Analysis look the best so far. ![]() |

Those are the same two I agree with! I think the Fear on Film one kinda sounds fun actually. Probably watch some old movies like Alfred Hitchcock stuff... you know the classics. |

Boy, your're doing great. I haven't even gotten the course catalog yet. Though I'm thinking along the lines of writing (some ppl have said I have a knack for it :P), electric keyboard (have one at home gathering dust), cooking (always loved doing it - might be fun to try out different things). Kinda scary going back to "school" - but if it's something that interests me, it shouldn't be so bad. Cyn |

Heh, when I was looking at the list, I said to myself that the Film Analysis one sounded interesting. A buddy of mine went to film school a couple years ago, and I always promised I would write a screenplay for him. I better get on that. Good luck by the way. (No history ones? Why does no one like history?) |

Cooking classes are fun! I took one in high school, and I remember it being my favorite class ever (I really like cooking). There is a culinary institute I really want to go to...it's just insanely expensive. That Fear on Film class looks awesome!!! I wonder if my local CC has one like that...I'm going to look into that. Heh, I missed the one on Art History. My emphasis was on military history in my undergrad, so art history = {No thanks.} for me, hehe. Although I did have one on appreciation of architecture which was pretty cool, so who knows. If you get a good teacher, it could be a good class. |

Damn getting back into FFXI has made me think about Japanese more.... The only problem I have with it is at ASU it's 5 credits. most classes are 2-3. 5 credits means everyday, for 1+ hours everyday, and that leaves little room for other classes or binge drinking the night before.... It would be damn easy seeing as I took 3 years of Japanese in high school. *sigh* I gotta sign up for classes tommorw when I get back into AZ, we'll see what happens. As for yarr, good for you. It's one thing to just take classes because you have to, and it's another to have a serious interest in them and pay for them yourself. I'm much more into club sports/christian activities (I'm very involved in the christian scence at my school) than school so it's real hard for me to get motivated to sit down and write anything down on paper. Props, though. My classes are.... Mass Communication English 101 (teh failed last semester....Damn girls...) Geology PreCalc Philosophy of Reasoning (logic) Maybe Japanese...... |

Ok help me out too here. I have quite a few interests and can't seem to narrow it down. Cooking -- Bill was always such a picky eater (strictly meat and potatoes, down home country style) so International Cooking sounds neat. I'll eat just about anything lol. Interior Design - Jen suggested this one. I actually did some work in this area in an off way. I painted murals and did decorative antique refinishing. Electric Keyboard - bought one of these on a fluke and got a self instruction book. I didn't think I was very good at it and it kindof got pushed in a closet. Writing - MM actually suggested this one. He seems to think I have a flair for it. It interests me because I do love to read. Computer classes - Well I do seem to spend all day in front of the stupid thing lol. Might be nice to know a little more than click here. Cyn |
