alright then, its time for another refresher!

Here's some vocab for you, if you want to practice breaking down the passage:
とらのもん = a district in Tokyo
オークラ ホテル = Ookura Hotel
りょかん = Japanese Style Inn
としょかん = Library
とらのもん えき = Toranomon Station
アメリカたいしかん = American Embassy
びょういん = Hospital

:D

:shock:

:wink:

This is my translation of it, pretty damn sure its all right.

Toranomon district has many big buildings. The biggest building is Ookura Hotel. It's a big and pretty hotel. This area also has many Japanese-style Inns, but they are all small. Behind Ookura Hotel is the American Embassy. Next door to the Embassy is the Library. This Library has many new and many old books. It's not so big, but, it's a very useful Library. The hospital is inbetween Toranomon Station and Ookura Hotel. It's a big, white building.

note: yeah that 3rd sentence, ookii should be in te form, ookute kirei na hoteru, but my class isn't that far so they dont know about te form with 2 adjectives so it's not on there yet.

I probably would have said "The library has many books both new and old" or something like that, but same difference, heh.

Do you also learn Kanji in your class or does it just focus on grammar structure/speaking?

Ah ok, actually the passage seems pretty familiar, do you guys use the Noda/Jorden books? @_@

I wonder how much I would have been able to translate if it was in Kanji, lol >_<;

actually we do use noda and jorden books, except that passage isnt from the book. all the material from the passage is learned from the book though. Where did you learn japanese at / what school?

Cool! I'm taking japanese as well, but I just started in September last year. I nearly translated all of it correctly but some of it was wrong ^^; lol. I take japanese @ a high school Phillips Academy Andover (boarding school) I think its really fun and interesting to learn too...

btw... how did you write that hiragana in the post like that? Is there a program or something you use? I have no idea how to type hiragana/katakana/kanji anywhere on my computer....

i can't read kanji viviti, well, not much of it. only hiragana and katakana mainly. although i think i recognize the first kanji symbol as the symbol for watashi

as for writing with japanese, do a google search and type "japanese language pack windows" and you can go to a link off microsoft's website for a file that will install asian languages on your comp so you can type japanese
