Post subject:  Networking Issues! {All right!}

o_o;; Well, I've had this thing for a few years now, about as long as I've had my DSL. About a year or so into working with the connection, after it's flawless performance for say about a year of my networks life span. Then our Modem died as far as I was told. We got a new one, and we've had the Linksys router the whole time. After the modem was replaced, my connection to the internet has been the most unstable I've seen since getting on. I've had this problem since well before I started playing FFXI, and am just now figuring out that it's probably my router.

Anyways, my real beef here is that I'm really trying to do my best on the game as far as being in parties and junk, but I can't seem to really effectively give the game my all in that aspect because of my internet connection giving out on me almost once every hour, somtimes even after a minute or so, or not being able to sign back on for periods of time.

I just wanted to know if anyone was a technology guru that could offer some insight into a cheep yet effective router that can deal with Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet, and will actually WORK. o_@ Lol. . . I'm not sure who all has partied with me on the forums, or has a connection like mine, but any help with this internet issue would be greatly appreciated. ^^

Thanks!

I use my router as "Linksys" and never had any plm with it yet and still works great on both hardline and wireless line.

i lived with the problem for a year.. I almost quit the game because of it. I would get r0's 5 seconds. Its made it almost impossible to play and enjoy this game at all.

My dad runs some Peer to Peer network thing on his computer, and whenever he does that whenever I try to play I always get disconnected. Anyone know of this kind of problem or how to fix it?

Odds are his peer to peer connections are taking up too much bandwith. Ask him to tune down his client so that he's not trying to max it out on the upload download speeds.

Tell him he can download porn later after you're done playing video games.

o.O lol how'd you know? And like I have to do extra chores to get on before he decides it's ok, which usually leaves me an hour to do anything, which isn't enough to do anything at all.

And just now he's like "Don't complain if it's slow" and I can't get him to understand that getting kicked off doesn't = running slow

linksys routers suck irl i had one for a while and i would get r0 all the time.. i finally threw it out and bought a netgear... hadn't had a problem since... one of my friends told me that linksys routers are really shitty ever since some company bought them out or something... and he said at his work they stoped using linksys because of all the packet loss they got from them

I've had 2 problems since i got my dsl. Once was on their end, took a few hours on the phone and they did some shit to fix it. Other was i was missing line filters. All it takes is 1 missing filter and a phone call to get a d/c. I somehow doubt that its a linksys problem. After all linksys is owned Cisco, and if your on the internet you are going through some cisco product. :D

And yes you get alot of R0 when downloadin porn, not that i would know

Well, yesterday I switched out my old p.o.s. Linksys router, and installed my shiny new D-Link ^_^ lol, so far it's working alot better than the Linksys router, but there's still a few problems I need to sort out. I think most of them concern the other computers in the house. . .

This is the reason Peejo and Kailyn get along so well.
