i'm going to change things up for my list, instead of top "moments," i'm going to just list the most important games i played in chronological order. which is almost what that guy did anyway. Metroid > Mario1 > Double Dragon > Mario3 > Zelda2 > River City Ransom > Maniac Mansion > Zelda3 > Final Fantasy2 > Final Fight > Final Fantasy3 > Secret of Mana > King's Quest6 > Doom > Twisted Metal2 > King's Field2 > Civilization2 > Age of Empires > Final Fantasy5 > Diablo2 > Final Fantasy Tactics > Castlevania SoTN > Tekken Tag > Final Fantasy11 probably leaving out a few important ones, oh well |

Ok here goes... 8. FFIV - Kain betrays Cecil. This game taught me so much about humanity, our ability for greatness but also for wickedness. I mean, Kain and Cecil were like brothers, but Kain's internal conflicts drove him over the edge (although he redeems himself in the end). I lost a little childhood innocence when the betrayal happened. 7. Breath of Fire II - Building your own town. As a kid, I really loved Breath of Fire I, II, and III. In BOF II, you could build your own town, complete with an inn, weapons shop, residences, etc. As a kid, this was the closest thing to having my own place. 5. Wolfenstein 3D - My first 3D game and first-person shooter. Of course this game was a very limited 3D, but never before had I seen a game from the main character's perspective. Also, my 10 year-old self loved the violence, which was pretty revolutionary. I spent hours playing this as a young kid. 6. Tomb Raider - The first time diving head-first off a cliff into a giant pool of water. When this game first came out, The 3D environments were truly mind blowing. The undergound caverns and caves were huge, and entirely explorable. Also, the controls for Lara Croft were impecable. 4. Diablo 2 - Finding the best items. This game made me obsessed about uber gear more than any other RPG. The expansive list of cool items was the best part about the game. I could do "magic-find" runs over and over and not get sick of it. Of course I eventually did get sick of it, but it was really fun while it lasted. 3. FFIV - Rydia's return. When Rydia first joins your party, she is a little girl, more of a burden than anything else. She supposedly dies in the shipwreck (when leviathan attacks, I think). Later on in the game, Cecil struggles against a powerful boss, and wehn everything looks grim, all of a sudden we see a Mist Dragon come and attack the enemy. Rydia, now a young woman, bursts onto the screen and save Cecil and the party. I still get goose bumps over this. 2. FFVI - The destruction of the World of Balance, and the emergence of the World of Ruin. I loved everything about this game, but this was the moment that the game really took off. When Celes woke up on that deserted island, I said to myself "holy shit, this game means business." 1. FFXI - My first MMORPG. FFXI changed my concept of video games forever. Human interaction, challenging immersive gameplay, an internalized economy, gorgeous graphics, and the list goes on. I've spent more time with this game than all other games combined. |

One of my top video game moments that was really shocking to me was the end of Shadow Hearts : Covenant, that was just crazy. |

Most of the things listed are just pointing out the releases of good games being shocking moments. That's no fun to discuss, we all know about Doom being released defining FPS and all that crap. Something I remember well was Solid Snake not being the main character for Metal Gear Solid 2. That hit gamers hard, lol. Nobody saw it coming at all. Every single piece of hype, press release, screenshot, story preview, interview and even the fricking playable demo, all indicated that the game starred Solid Snake. And with all of the hype and anticipation surrounding the game, it was due to be a hit long before it was released. Then the game hit the shelves, and it turned out you played as Snake for 5% of the game, during the intro. Then you were thrown into some other game, staring someone else completely. I think Hideo Kojima pulled one hell of a stunt on the Video Game industry on that one, and he deserves credit for that. But he still made a big mistake doing it, lol, because Snake was a bad-ass, which made him fun to play as, and suddenly you were downgraded to "pansy" for the rest of the game. |

Haha I loved the one about Oregon Trail...so funny. Me and my circle of friends would make the other players with each others names. We'd shout to each other during computer class of the status of everyone's character. "Pat you got cholera!" Fun times. |
