Post subject:  New PC Hardware Suggestion/help

I posted this in private forum but everyones asleep so I figure I can get some feedback here too. I'm pretty computer illiterate so bear with me, I did do a little bit research.

K, so right now I'm thinking about getting 3 things all together in Taiwan, so I can make a new system when I Get back to the States.

I am doing this for 3d rendoring priority, then design/gaming 2nd priority.

$1 = 32NT (Taiwan Money)

K8 AMD64 3.0 939 Processor (5000NT)
Asus Motherboard that supports PCI Express and AMD64 (3000NT?)
Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra or GS (PCI E Interface) (8000+ NT)

16000 NT which comes to about $520 bucks.

Anyone think this is ok? am I missing something important that I should look out for? Wake up and give me some suggestions hahah, greatly appreciated.

Good call. Just did a setup like that but with an ATI

One tip is never buy Abit. Im yet to have a good exp. with that co. I love asus with the nice bios and temp monitoring tools. I think Asus dropped the nforce chipset with the 64's which kinds sucks but its still a damn good board. If possible post model #'s

Mike,

Good choices with the AMD64 and Asus motherboards. I love Asus. I have an A8n-sli deluxe that I recently purchased with my new computer, and it really kicks ass.

If you're going for SLI, then I'd probably suggest a 7800 graphics card. Especially if you're interested in 3d rendering. I've got dual 7800s via SLI running on my computer right now, and with 2 gigs of ram, there's pretty much not a thing I can't run at full spec without a care in the world.

I've been meaning to post some pictures of how my WoW runs, since Kayne always bitches about Anisotropic Filtering, but my character model itself looks kinda lame, since I don't have any fancy matching armor sets, or anything, so I'll maybe post something after I get the devout set, or something.

But yah... AMD and ASUS are great. And if you're going for 3d rendering/gaming, I'd opt for dual 7800 256mb cards instead. I know there's a 6800 512mb card out there, but if you're running SLI, you'll want the 7800 processing speed far more than a full gig of graphcis RAM.

Just sucks that you can't run SLI and dual monitors at the same time, since I have dual 19' lcd monitors, too (lol). But it's nothing a quick computer restart can't change. Just change the mode and restart. I do that when I do high-pop raids and stuff in WoW.

asus is the best AMD64 board out right now. cant go wrong w/ it. as for ABIT, i currently am running an ABIT NF7-S and it works like a charm. I would advize going with an ATI card unless you are going to utizlize SLI, just because ATI is a better card, but there "CrossFire" platform still needs a little work

really good videocard would be the Quardro fx 4500 if your looking for a professional card but will cost you a good number.
