Post subject:  Post your Heroes

Everyone's got their own personal heroes. Post yours. Most of mine are movie stars, but you can post whatever.

Chuck Norris and Che Guevera are BANNED from this thread.

Bruce Lee:

Image

Comments: Because everyone knows how much of a badass Bruce Lee is, I don't feel the need to say much about him. Bruce Lee whooped Chuck Norris' ass. My friends argued with me that Arnold Schwarzenegger could take down Bruce Lee. Fuck them. Also, I learned what a "Jiggaboo" is from Bruce Lee movies.

Jet Li:

Image

Comments: Not on Bruce's calibur, but that's not saying much considering that nobody else is. Gets mad propz for the black mask, and beating up black people in Cradle 2 the Grave and Romeo Must Die.

Bruce Willis:

Image

Comments: Honorable mention included for Bruce Willis because of the unforgettable scene in Sin City where Willis removed that yellow guy's scrotum with his fist and pounded his face into the ground. Badass in general.

Samuel L. Jackson:

Image
Comments: Mentioned for his role in Pulp Fiction for his intellectual banter with John Travolta and for quoting Ezekiel 25:17 as he executed that honkey-ass cracker.

Jean Claude Van Damme:

Image

Comments: Blood Sport kicked ass. Especially that African guy who smacked them big fighters around with his monkey fighting tactics. I saw another one Van Damme's movies once, it sucked ass. I heard from a friend that Mortal Kombat was orginally intended to be a Jean Claude Van Damme game, but was modified due to Van Damme's decreasing popularity, with characters based off of Van Damme, Bruce Lee, and other real life fighters.

Kane Kosugi:

Image

Comments: Blood Heat was pretty good. He is kind of a generic asian kung fu movie star, but whatever.

Jason Statham:

Image

Comments: Similar to Bruce Willis, Jason Statham is a beefy white guy. Despite how much The Transporter 2 sucked shit, the original movie was still pretty hardcore.

Mel Gibson:

Image

Comments: I was raised on Mad Max. My dad likes to bring up how he had me watch them when I was a toddler. Hale thanks his father for this. My father also once told me that he almost named me Max because of this movie, but my mom wouldn't allow it. THANKS A LOT MOM! [-(

Joe Seneca:

Image

Comments: (on right) Joe Seneca's performance in Crossroads was pretty rad. He was an angry old black guy who hated teenagers and played "the harp." He's so black that even the white part of his eyes are brown.

Mr. Peanut:

Image

Comments: Self-explanitory.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert

Kind of cliched now but I've been watching them religiously for a very long time and I'm very happy to see them so successful. Correspondent's Dinner was amazing.

Image

Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka
Anyone who is familiar with the things I post, my avatar/sig(from BYOB), and my fapious use of their emotes realize that I love SomethingAwful.com. I can't wait to see Lowtax bring justice (RLK style) to Uwe Boll. Failing that he'll get beat down but it'll still be funny.

John Petrucci

I don't play guitar but I don't have to to appreciate how awesome he is. I'm coming to see you next summer.

Steve Jobs

I’ve written all of my “who is your idol” essays since 4th grade on this man. At the time I thought it was very cool that he was he brilliant businessman who was so anti-business. He’s still pushed Apple to amazing heights since he came back in 97. My uncle (who really introduced me to macs in general) gave me a book very early called "Steve Jobs Thinks Different". I thought it was the cat's pajamas.

Sandra Wilson
Was a flight attendant and found out she was pregnant. She wanted to
stay home with her baby to avoid daycare and invented some leather,
nonslip babie booties that stay on. She sold them out of her basement at
first and her company began to grow, until finally she had 400 employees
and a major warehouse manufacturer. Her design has been copied
worldwide, and she just sold her company to Stride Rite Shoes (makers
of keds) for 30.1 million dollars.

Image
Terry Fox
Found out he had bone cancer in 1980 and had his leg amputated six
inches above the knee. Decided to attempt to run across Canada (with
one prosthetic leg) to raise awareness of cancer suffering. He ran
approximately the length of a marathon daily (something some people
never do once in their lives) for almost six months. He made it about
half way across Canada before the cancer spread to his lungs and took
his life, one week short of his 23rd birthday. It was his dream to collect
$1 from every Canadian to put toward cancer research and it was
realized; Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope raised $24.7 million.

Image
Sasquatch (aka Big Foot)
Man, this dude has dodged the camera for a long ass time.

Image
The Rock
K, this guy was the reason I watched WWF for so long. He had the
coolest moves, like "The People's Eyebrow," "The People's Elbow,"
and "Rock Bottom." lol

Image
Peg Bundy
Margaret "Peggy" Bundy is Al's wife and very lazy. She refuses to cook
for the family or to clean the house. She also prefers shopping for new
clothes to washing them and doesn't even think of having a job. During
the day she likes to watch all the day time talkshows, sitting on the
beloved family couch and eating tons of bonbons (without getting fat).

Tina Fey - She is a writer and actor on SNL and her new show 30 Rock premiers this fall. In my opinion, she is one of the greatest female comic writers of all time!

Image
Megan Mullally - Another female comic genius. She played Karen on Will and Grace and her new talk show is also premiering this fall. She is a great role model for girls and women, showing them that you don't have to be a starved actress to be successful.

hmm heroes..
I guess my brothers:
Image
one overcame a heroin addiction and the other took responsibly for his child and is one of the most motivated people that I know.

and my mom:
Image
Because she is probably the strongest person that I know. She took care of my grandfather rather than dumping him in some home, and she has been through more shit than any one person deserves and she still has managed to be an overall good person.

Max Reisch is also another sorta hero.
Image
He's a Tiroler who travelled all around the world before travelling all around the world became cool. Yall who are taking German can read about him here: http://www.maxreisch.at/

hm. I'm also a huge fan of Jim Henson(duh).
Image
I just love him and the Muppets. The Muppets are probably the closest thing that I have to an obsession. Whenever I'm having a crappy day, I just pop in one of the movies or watch the show and I feel better.

"In 1963, he sat down in a street in Saigon in the meditative position. He poured gasoline all over his body and set himself alight. He maintained a calm and meditative posture as his body burned, and then he simply toppled over. His death was dramatic but not all that different in nature and spirit from the deaths of many other Buddhist leaders and saints. One remarkable difference, however, was that his death was shown on many different televisions all around the world."

Image

"Later when his later when the Buddhist community tried to cremate his heart it remained intact. It was placed in the Reserve Bank of Vietnam and became the symbol of the Holy Heart."

I saw these pictures in a book while I was in high school. It changed my view about life a lot. ie: If this guy can burn to pieces and have complete control over himself, I can overcome my hardships as well. It's also my method of overcoming pain. When something really painful is happening to me, I shut my eyes and try to put myself in another place and I chant to myself (in my head, of course, or people would think I'm a complete weirdo), "I'm a Buddhist monk. I'm a Buddhist monk."

Can read more about him here if you'd like.

That's wierd. I've always thought Tich Quang Duc was regarded as a religious extremist and definately less than "most venerable".

In no particular order
Randy
Image
Comment: Wasn't that great when he played for Quiet Riot, he went into his room and came out one of the greatest guitarists ever. Mostly played for Ozzy, did some solo shit that is wicked.

Kirk
Image
Comment: Lead Guitarist for Metallica. Often criticized for his over usage of the "wah-wah" bar, but he is the sole influence that made me enjoy that type of music.

Jimmy
Image
Comment: Greatest guitarist of all time. By for the most influential.

Jerry
Image
Comment: Stud. Unmatched in the NFL for every major recieving record. He did all this after being called too small and too slow.

Dude
Image
Comment: The Dude Abides.

Christopher
Image
Comment: He puts his pants on, one leg at a time 'cept when he's got 'em on, he makes gold records!

Tony
Image[/url]
Comment: Ong-Bak; Thai Warrior introduced me to this stick of dynamite. One of the fastest people I have ever seen, and I personally believe he could go toe-to-toe with Bruce Lee.

Kirk Hammet is criticized for using the wah-wah/crybaby pedal in a way that makes his licks and scalar runs sound faster than they are. It is basically cheating by using effects during a solo like that to some guitarists. The bar he uses is called a whammy bar or a tremelo bar. Tremelo bars are used to lower or raise (usually lower) the pitch of a note/chord/harmonic. Hammet really isn't that excessive compared to others as far as the tremelo goes. Whammy/Tremelo bar useage is not considered cheating as it is controlled by the guitarist. He is however someone who later on has relied too much on the pentatonic scale (the most over-used scale in rock/metal music) and uses the wah/crybaby to make him seem faster than he really is. What makes it really pathetic is many guitarists are still faster and more precise than him without the aid of such electronics, and they play more difficult music to boot. As much as I like Metallica's music, I have to admit Kirk is overrated. I idolized him alot more when I started playing guitar at the age of 15 than I do now at 27. I found out there were a shitload of great guitarists that can do the same shit and better. Randy Rhodes however was great for the relatively small amount of material released, since he died too soon.

I don't know if I can honestly call someone my hero unless they have directly saved my life or something lol. Otherwise anyone who saves lives is a hero to me, just not necessarily my hero haha. As much as I love football, videogames, movies, guitar and music in general... it would be hard to classify any of the people I like in those fields as heroes. People that cure diseases are heroes, firefighters that pull people out of a burning building are heroes and so on. Heroes don't do something to better themselves or save just themselves, they do it to save/help others in a selfless manner.
