Anyone know of any free video editing software that I can download?

I need to splice out scenes (mpeg format I think) and maybe add background music...I figured I'd ask for opinions before I looked around and wasted my time with shitty programs that have 2 day licences, limited use, etc.

final cut pro

final cut pro is the best software for amatuer filmmakers (it's also widely used in the filmmaking industry), but unless you want to make your own feature length film it's probably too much software for what you want. Also, it retails for $800-$900, unless you can download it for free illegally, idk.

windows movie maker sounds like it would serve you best. have you tried messing around with it?

wait you running a mac or pc? yeah what thunder said is probobly right, i use finalcut at school, and its really a bitch to learn on your own, needs ALOT of experimenting, movie maker is pretty simple, self explanitory and it works.

I'm using windows XP.

Haven't had a chance to mess around with the windows movie maker program yet, but i'm sure that's all i'll need...I looked at the final cut pro and whoa yeah, i'm not trying to make toy story 3 or anything. Looks like a high learning curve which I don't have to the time/money for.

Windows movie maker ftw. Easy to use and it's probably on your computer. It should be perfect for what you plan on doing.
