I don't think people moaning on the forums is going to do anything. People have been moaning about surplus for months now and SE havent said a word. But then, the moment it starts appearing on the news sites, they're up in arms about it.

What needs to happen is the mainstream media to start making articles about how stupid it is.

Yeah but thats moaning behind the closed doors of Beta. They are in the public eye now.

It just bugs me that the developers still refuse to interact with the NA user base.

What ever happened with this? Has anybody hit the exp/SP wall?

Kayne said he hasn't noticed anything, so I'm assuming he's spent more than 8 hours on a particular job. I haven't quite reached 8 hours yet, but if I grind out more on Conjurer tonight, I will. Supposing we can tell the decreases.

I don't think it was like 8 hours and then nothing. More like 8 hours and then reduced exp for a set mount of time.

The problem is nobody has gotten that high yet. Normally fatigue struck once you hit about Rank 14 on any job in under a week, which is a certain amount of skill points. The 8 hours thing was SE saying "we figured out how much exp you could get doing 8 hours of just exping". So the fatigure kicks in after X amount of exp/skill, not time based.

The reason this was suddenly so noticable, and everyone hit this really fast in Beta 3 because of the "bug" that gave you like 5000 skill points for doing a leve with Guardian's Aspect on. It's so hard to grind now that nobody has really hit it yet. I could have if I had time to play all weekend but I've been busy.

Well, maybe that's for the best, then. I haven't seen a lot of benefits in partying just yet. At least < 10, it seems like a big waste of time. I mean you can leach a few hundred gil per leve if you share them as a group, but grinding solo mobs is just so much better for skill/exp for mages. At least that's my observation.

Maybe like around 10-15, you start forming parties, sort of like what you did back in 11. Team up for the level 20 leves, or something.

I miss that bug. I got to like rank 10 buy doing 8 LQs.

I guess their idea was to help individuals with time sinks irl keep up with hardcore gamers (or possibly liability issues involving MMORPG addiction)? But it sounds like this feature is not as bad as originally feared? I know when I first read this news release I was like WTF

I read a few articles about it from "game news" sites, and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I just don't want it to turn into an actual nuisance when trying to play, especially since we will be paying every month.

Okay, so I spent a good deal of time on thaum over the last two days, and here are my findings.

So, once my thaum skill bar numbers turned yellow, I started getting a message at the end of fights saying I had 'bonus' thaum skill. I did some maths, and it didn't seem like it had an effect on what was gained. Here is what I saw:

Three attacks in the fight gave thaum skill: 25, 29, 41. This totalled (at the end of fight total message) 95 thaum skill. So far so good. The 'bonus' thaum skill message said I received 9 bonus skill. In all tests, it was always 10% of total gained round down.

When I would compare my total thaum skill status, however, I gained the full 95 skill. Odd. I would have expected only 86 of it to be added to my progress bar. Now, you could say the reduced amount was calculated per each individual increase during the span of the fight, but then the bonus number at the end wouldn't make sense being 10% of the total.

So I don't know what the hell it all means. I ground less than an hour in 'fatigue' state, so maybe the first hour doesn't actually affect anything and serves more as a warning, but so far it seems as if fatigue doesn't reduce skill earned.

Why would they list it as a bonus now?

I've never seen such an amazing rebuttle to nerd rage.

I still think it's silly that they say this system allows more options. All options were already allowed.

I kind of interpret it now to mean that you have more options to customize your character with different abilities that you invariable get by playing a whole lot more.

Or maybe they mean that compared with other MMOs their system allows more options. If this style was introduced in other MMOs you would flat hit a brick wall in leveling, but with the way they've designed it you're always leveling two jobs, with the option to switch your class to whatever you want.

Or maybe I have no idea what they're talking about. It was a really poor PR statement; something was probably lost in translation.

Nah, this system doesn't give you more options; the options exist nomatter what. This system just forces you to choose some.

In the end, we will all live, since we need to take up multiple classes, anyway... Namely craft/repair classes. And maybe an item-farming class, though your main class could do that with fatigue, anyway.
