I already have an awesome name for one of my lalafel chars, but it won't be a main. It may be just an alt I use purely for the lulz. I'm going to be Ridere Something as my name. Haven't quite figured out what I want my last name to be yet.

the gf and I will be Umbreon & Espeon. We're not quite sure of last names yet either.

Game is meh so far. Getting around the menus, etc. is tedious and the fact that you can't rebind your keys is basically a game breaker for me. If it was anything other than FF14 I'd uninstall it the second I found out I couldn't rebind my keys, however I'm hoping this will change before retail.

Sadly, FF11 is better right now, mostly due to the controls and of course the fact that I know what the hell I'm doing (I didn't expect FF14 to hold my hand so I'm fine with that).

The game feels sluggish and things like water animation constantly breaks so it looks like the sea is a stationary pool of jello pudding, also the "on-demand" rendering is poorly done so that low-res textures are replaced in front of your eyes by higher rez ones in a straight line. I'm hoping this will change in the future since it looks ugly as hell.

In conclusion, FF14 basically feels like EQ2 with more lag and less user-friendly menus and controls. I'll still play it probably, especially since you guys are going to be playing it, but if "beta" isn't much different from retail I don't think a lot of people are going to stick around.

This bugs me to hell lol, there's like a pane of glass 100 meters in front of you, everything behind it is blurry and everything in front of it is sharp. It looks like it's the Depth of Field effect bugged out but I've not tried turning it off yet.

And yeah people on their beta forums have done nothing but complain about the controls and UI since the start of the beta, they need to have a serious revamp there. Very little has actually changed since the start of the beta though, they're fixing things incredibly slowly. People seem to think that we're actually a major build behind SE and they're only filtering game-breaking fixes (such as servers crashing) down to testers, and keeping their lastest builds internal.

Oh actually if the framerate is super sluggish, goto the configuration app and turn Ambient Occlusion off, it sky rocketed my FPS (on a GTX 480) from 5 to 60.

Yea that "Pop in" effect of hi-res textures is super annoying. its one of my primary gripes with the Last Remnant for example. I expect it to a certain extent sure, but if its rampant everywhere you go its gets very obnoxious very quickly

well guys remember its still under development and still in beta.

Going by what I've seen so far, nobody actually takes the first name last name thing very seriously. It might just be a Beta thing, but I've seen everything from Creepy Pedobear to Now Loading.

Yea I never play with ambient occlusion on or depth of field since I hate how AO kills performance and DoF isn't realistic like everyone thinks it is (sorry but I can see shit perfectly in the distance and it's not a blurry mess unless I rip my contacts out of my eyes; it's fine for when you actively look at objects in front of you and the background blurs, but not when you're trotting along looking at the whole picture).

In any case I guess they fucked up Phase 3 so that NVidia cards are peforming horribly and everyone's CPU and GPu usage and loads are 100% and burning up for no reason, so it looks like we gotta wait for a fix.

and yeah the first/last name thing is stupid, but at least I'll be able to cancel my CE and still be able to get my first name if retail looks like it's gonna have problems and I don't feel like paying that extra 25 bucks for a week of bug-riddled playtime :P

the worst part is you can have two of the same first name. So I can make "Yarr ThePirate" and then Kayne can make a character called "Yarr TheAssPirate"

So far, only when you teleport (which makes sense).

You can run right the way from one side of Limsa Lominsa to the other end of La Noscea without any zoning whatsoever.

There's a dungeon though I've not tried going in to yet, so I don't know if it zones when you go in there.

Honestly, though, we probably should pin down a few of the more basic things, like if they do continue the boss-named servers, which one shall we all pick? And we should also start working on some of the LS aspects, like does Yarr want to deal with the administration this time around, or should we have someone else spearhead it?

I'd hate to just have all of us end up spread out on different servers, because we didn't want to wait around after launch to get our shit organized and were too anxious to get logged in and start killing things.

I feel bad that I haven't posted more of what Monarchy is doing, mostly just wasn't sure if it was wanted here and all that crap. So if that's the case and nobody cares I'll stop.

However I really would like to see us all play together on the same server.

Cyix, Athel, Vuce, Noodlebrain (not sure if he's playing) Erart and Tokaru are all playing on Emperor right now. If there is an Ifrit server at release I like that idea, but don't think that's 100%

Sorry forgot Soulguy too, just hadn't seen him ingame yet
