So is this a true open beta? Meaning anyone and their grandmother can get in?

Actually right now we're not sure who it's open to, lol. All we know is that people who were in closed beta will also get into open beta, and that there will be separate "signups" later for everyone else.

Going by what SE has said, it's going to basically a larger closed beta with separate application forms. Perhaps it will be a matter of signing up and instantly getting in, otherwise it's not exactly "open".

Patch to update to the Open Beta client is up. It's about 1.2GB. The updater and launcher get patched first (red update) so you may have to run the updater twice to get the game data (blue update).

As you should all be well aware of the speed of SE's torrent/seed servers, it's a good idea to get it going as soon as possible.

Are we able to launch that update through a different torrent program with this one as well? I'm not at home and can't check atm.

You can, but SE have blocked uTorrent (and supposedly other clients) from their tracker.

This means you can only find peers over DHT or Peer Exchange, and you're not able to connect to any of SE's seeding servers. This will change if anybody actually seeds the patch once it's fully downloaded but it's unlikely.

Right now, the official downloader will be faster than uTorrent.

Ok, thanks for the heads up Ket. I'll get on that when I get home.

I'm not sure how much I'll play the OB, but are we going back to Sephiroth?

Yeah, lets decide on a server for tomorrow night. What time do you think we'll actually be able to play though? I mean really, with so many people flooding I may wait till morning to even try. Or will the download simply take until morning anyways lol.

What do you guys think?

I wouldnt count on getting to play right away. Square will intentionally stress the servers at the start.

With theorized 8 hours of play time, I'm sure most Conjurers and Thaumaturges will be leveling both jobs up simultaneously. Will be interesting to see how many duplicated spells we get.

I find it interesting that it sounds like you can cast reraise on a "target".

conj & thaum are already very similar. i was aware they both get raise & reraise target. didnt know it was level 38 tho.

i read that conjurer gets a casting distance up / aoe range down ability and thaum gets a casting distance down / aoe range up ability. that could produce different roles at HNMs. the conj being able to stand far away and buff/nuke ground zero, while thaums will probably be doing lots of buffing both at the back end and also having to run up near the action to do buffing.

Anyone else having the "Virus warning" from MSE? I finished the download, but MSE wont allow the install to finish, it thinks its found a virus.

It's a false positive.

Notice it says ".gen" on the end of the virus, the gen stands for "generic", which means it's been picked up by a heuristic scanner. Basically, something inside the file seems similar enough to a virus to possibly be a virus so it gets caught.

If you tell MSE to "allow" the file and re-run the updater it'll patch fine.
