In preparation for the official release of FINAL FANTASY XIV on September 30, 2010 and the early release on September 22, we will be starting an open beta test to help put the finishing touches on the game. We ask that all users who can participate in the open beta test apply from the following website.

1.Access the following URL.
http://entry.ffxiv.com/
* The page will become accessible starting at 19:00 on Aug. 31, 2010.

2.Log in with your Square Enix account and have a registration code issued.
* Depending on the access status, we may temporarily suspend the issuance of registration code. If you cannot have registration code issued, we ask that you please wait a little while before trying again.

3.Register the registration code you received by e-mail on the Square Enix Account Management System.
Click "Select Service" from "Services and Options" on the left menu. Select "FINAL FANTASY XIV" from the services available and then "Add a service account." Enter the registration code you've been issued and proceed to the end of registration.

The Square Enix Account Management System: https://secure.squar...ix.com/account/

As stated above, Open Beta Test requires a dedicated registration code and the login to Beta Test Site will become unavailable starting at 0:00 on Aug. 31, 2010 (PDT).
* Once the registration code is registered, you will be able to log in to Beta Test Site once again.

- Transferring your Character Name from the Open Beta Test to the Commercial Release
As long as the World you choose in the commercial release is the same as the World you chose in the open beta test, you will be able to transfer your character name. If you choose a different World for the commercial release, your character name will not be transferrable. For details, please refer to the beta test site.

- To PlayStation 3 Version Applicants:
This test phase will deal only with the Windows version of the software. Details regarding the test schedule for the PlayStation 3 version will be released by e-mail at a later date. If possible, we still ask and encourage you to take part in the testing on a Windows PC.

- Note:
・The open beta test is being conducted on the Windows version of the game only.
・Latest news and notifications will be periodically posted on the forums of the tester site.
・The game to be tested is under development, and may differ from the commercial release.
・Please direct all inquiries regarding FINAL FANTASY XIV to the Square Enix Support Center ( http://support.na.sq...enix.com/ffxiv/ ).

While I'm sure the SE monthly email would cover this, please post if you hear anything about PS3 beta or something like it.

I've been trying to do that for weeks now. haha I reactivated my account in July, but forgot Matti's old card was on file that has a new number now because it was lost or something. I tried logging in a few weeks after I activated and it said it had late fees. I tried paying them, but POL kept giving me error messages saying the card info was incorrect. I've called SE twice now. First guy said it was fixed, but when I tried it still didnt work. The second guy told me it had to be reviewed by their billing department to determine if I'm trying to scam my way out of paying my bill and will take up to a week. I asked him if he realized I was trying to pay my bill at that moment. He got pissy with me. So right now, SE is reviewing my account to see if I'm allowed to pay my bill and play their game. That's right. They don't know if they want my money. haha Fuckers. I wish I didn't care about these games so I could call and be completely obscene and rude. Might not fix anything, but apparently neither does being nice and wanting to pay for their services. And it would make me feel better. slkdggahosig

Lame, I go to work for the day and completely miss my chance to get my account registered before SE randomly decide to change "open beta" to mean "limited to the first X number of people open beta". (Just a guess)

I linked my playonline account which shows up, but it still doesn't show my FFXI account in service history. Maybe it doesn't happen til' it's billed?

Everyone has to re-apply to the beta. If you try to log into the beta site with your old ID you'll find it no longer works, because you dont have "beta access" anymore.

Right now nobody can apply any more though until they fix whatever their "critial bug" was.

According to the build theory we've been tossing around this means that they're certainly not using the closed beta build we played. So either it's one that hasn't seen the light of day or something was wrong with the gamescon beta.

Considering they only noticed this "critial bug" once they suddenly started taking open beta applications, i'm guessing it's related to that. Probably something stupid like people can't log in if they register like that, but since they removed all the old beta accounts too, the game wouldn't work at all now.

But really, who knows.

I thought they said that people in the closed beta wont have to apply to get in.

SE say a lot of things.

Fact is, if you try to log on to the beta forums with even an "Alpha-era" Square Enix Account, it'll tell you you're not a beta tester. If you want access, you have to sign up again.

I'm pretty sure it seems like the moment you sign up you're just given access though, so right now it really is "open". Unfortunately they postponed it for now, and most people can't get into the beta forum to find out what's up.

Final Fantasy XIV Beta Delayed By "Critical Bugs"
"Critical Bug" could be a boss monster.
August 31, 2010

Players hoping to try the next Final Fantasy MMO for free before the game launches in the second half of September have one last obstacle to overcome. A post made on the Final Fantasy XIV Online website indicated that the open beta, which was due to start at 7PM PST today, will be "postponed due to a confirmation of critical bugs." No specific time as to when the beta will instead begin has been announced yet.

The game, which is set to open its servers to Collector's Edition purchasers on the September 22, has as of yet only had a narrow and rather private closed beta phase. With only three weeks to go until paying players will be logging in, the real news is how short the open beta phase will be. Betas this short don't often bode well for the product's final release, and the specific cause of the delay -- critical bugs -- this close to release doesn't fill us with confidence either.

We've contacted Square Enix for comment and will update this story as we find out more.
