It's 10pm for the servers to go up, however I would recommend trying a little early. For the last few phases SE has been letting people log in and start the character creation process before the servers actually go live. I think Cy and Vuce got in as early as 9pm and were able to basically get to the server selection, than get the timeout error until 10pm.

Hopefully they are still doing this, it would give us plenty of time to decide on a server.

Well you know you get more daylight in summer time than winter that how it save more monies on electirc bills. Arizona is only state that don't use daylight saving due to where its sun goes around this state, its werid.

So is CKD starting in Uldah? What sever will you guys be choosing? Are you accepting new members even before launch? It would be nice to have a group of people to play with. In FFXI I was never a member of CKD, but played with a few of you, and am hoping other ifriters will also follow you to whatever server yall decide on.

I think we will want to test both Uldah and Gridania to just get an overall feel for things. Most likely, however, we will want to pick the least-crowded starting town. As for sever, we won't choose until we get the open beta list of servers.

I dont think we will all start in one city. Im going to spend a lot of time in Open Beta learning the route from city to city (if thats open) so i can hand out pearls.

There seems to be two additional zones in the dat files now that aren't the areas around the three starting cities.

It looks like the area surrounding the new "up north Jeuno place", and an area in the middle to connect everything, are in the files as well.

Observe: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b78/K ... egions.jpg

Doesn't mean we'll be able to get into them or get from one city to another, but it at least might be possible. Don't forget that La Noscea (Limsa) is an island so it probably has a boat or something.

Bumping a couple days old thread to say that, despite earlier gripes and feelings of being sick of the place, I think I'll actually be starting in Limsa Lominsa in retail.

I always liked the look of La Noscea moreso than Thanalan or the Black Shroud, and now through rerolling several times over a couple betas I've kind of grown accustomed to La Noscea, it's layout, and where all the good exp spots and stuff are. I also think it's nice green open plans are better than the dreary mountainous desert and maze-like forest. Even in this open beta I started in Gridania, moved to Ul'Dah and eventually found my way back to Limsa.

I still kind of hate the city layout, and would much prefer something similar to Ul'Dah, but La Noscea (as a starting zone) is sealing the deal for me. Limsa also has the guilds for the crafts I intend to take up, which is a bonus.

As an aside, I feel that come retail, the first priority will be to "get ahead of the pack" so that we don't get sucked into the black hole of fighting for the same mobs as everyone else. So knowing where the good exp spots are in advance is going to be a plus.

I have considered instead of leveling my gladiator at launch, instead just doing gathering/crafting. This way it gives time for people to get through the initial area or 2 before i start. I am also considering pre-ordering the CE. In which case my plan would be to get my subs leveled up and start on glad, and after official launch, when i expect it would be busier, move into crafting and gathering to avoid the crowds.

Here's my current what's the battle plan:

Starting in Gridania to get a pearl from Yarr and then running to Uldah to hand out pearls there, and to level up there, while Yarr is running to Limsa Lominsa.

Marauder will be my main. I'll focus on two roles, first obviously is DD, second is backup/emergency tank.

The skills I'm most looking forward to up to level 20 include:
Trunksplitter (Marauder 2)
Brandish (Marauder 4)
Bloodbath (Marauder 6)
Defender (Marauder 10)
Brutal Swing (Marauder 16)
Disorient (Marauder 18)
Provoke (Gladiator 10)
Obsess (Gladiator 18)
Second Wind (Pugilist 6)
Taunt (Pugilist 10)
Ferocity (Lancer 4)
Sacrifice (Thaumaturge 4)
Slow (Thaumaturge 8)
Stygian Spikes (Thaumaturge 16)

After level 20, I'll name a few skills that are going to define my class:
Murderous Intent (Marauder 26)
Intimidation (Marauder 30)
Warmonger (Marauder 30)
...The many aoe weapon skills marauder gets...
...And there are many "Part II" marauder abilities as well
Accomplice (Pugilist 30, later on)
Prime Conditioning (Pugilist 30, later on)

Gonna pump VIT > STR > DEX

Crafts will be Blacksmith, Armorer, Goldsmith, Miner. So weapons, heavy armor, and accessories.

Ok I'm ready let's do this!

Awesome, whisp!

I'll start in Ul'dah, as I don't want to deal with pirate accents.

I'll pick up a pearl from whomever, do 4 battle leves in Ul'dah, complete the mission up to our MP recovery move, and do rank one goldsmith leves.

I'll then hoof it to Limsa and do the same set of leves. This will have me high enough, as a thaum, to take out sheeps reliably.

From there, it's:
- Sheeps to thaum 13.
- Bazaar excess shards on Risata
- Conj to ~8 in Ul'dah (For different shards from sheep)
- Goldsmith to ~10 in Ul'dah (Gil dependant)
- Weaving to ~10 in Ul'dah (Gil dependant)
- Conj to 13 on sheep
- Bazaar excess shards/jewelry on risata
- Thaum to 20

Goal is to quickly amass shards and get to a point to do rank 20 leves by the first leve refresh.

Though they are changing the 48 hour refresh, so basically 20 ASAP with ability to repair my gear.

I'm thinking of following a plan similar to Ridere, but I'm considering grinding to 7-8 then skipping rank1 leves and going straight to rank10 leves. I'll be keeping all my shards though :P I also plan on spending some time on mining and alchemy. My goal is to get to goldsmithing 14+ in the first couple of days so I can make the rank11 thaum weapon.

I'm starting in Ul'dah level up Gladiator to 10 then Archer to 20 in 7 days. By then I should have enough crystals to level up culinary.

Something I've noticed now that I'm rank 19.

I'm suddenly getting a lot more skill points off of rank 20 levequests, a hell of a lot more. I'm getting like 400-500 skill per mob *without* guardian's aspect, versus what I used to get which was like 100 per mob and sometimes none at all.

Only difference is that I'm 2 staring them solo now, instead of using 1 star and soloing or partying them from like rank 14 upwards.

I'm wondering if the levequests are (similar to i believe the mobs attack power is) being adjusted based on rank. Possibly to prevent you doing them earlier than you're supposed to? I'm going to need some more data because this will change my launch battle plan significantly. Obviously the higher rank leves give better rewards, but it's possible that unless the high rank leve gives a nice armor reward, I should skip it and go do the lower ranked leve but on a higher difficulty.

Anyone else with some spare leves who've been soloing Bloodshore (Rank 20~) at Rank 15 or so want to go see if they get better skill going back to Castle Greyskull (Rank 10~) and doing it on 2-3 star difficulty or something?

Is there any good spot in Gridania to grind on? I don't remember finding one; not like LL's sheep anyway.

I found pockets of monsters a bit deeper in. Hard to explain, and I'm not sure the levels, but the area NW of town has various pockets. Some even requiring sneaking around harder mobs to reach.

i now think i'll be starting in limsa.
blacksmith guild, armorer guild, marauder guild. and mobs that drop wind/fire/earth shards outside. it's probably the best match.

the downside is i don't like the monster spread outside whatsoever. with barely a wharf rat in sight, and high level mobs running around outside town where the wharf rats should be. but i think i can deal with it.

but WHO KNOWS
i may change my mind entirely and roll a thaum
now that i realize they get the level 1 skill with MP-recovery
