I'm not sure if you'll need to have a credit card on file to start the game, but it's up for registration and crysta purchase (not that you'll need it).

https://secure.square-enix.com/account/ ... nt=account

The password you have to choose needs upper and lower case letters and a special character (!@#$%^&*).

Apparently there's a $2.50 charge for registering which should be returned/refunded (for validating the card).

On a side note, there's a few people who already got their CE boxes, so far there's been 2 patches before the servers open, one for 2MB and the other for 300MB.

Outsourcing the payment stuff like this is kind of retarded. Why do I have to sign up for another service, with a completely different password, just to pay fake money into an account (which can't be bought in increments that equal the monthly service fee) which i can then use to pay off service fees?

What the heck is wrong with just entering my card details directly on SE's site and having it automatically charge my card each month just like FFXI did?

I've never even heard of these guys before, they sound shady as hell.

This has kind of pissed me off more than it should. I hate signing up for crap.

Even more so that they enforce symbols in my password (which was strong enough already thank you) then they wanted my phone number (I can buy stuff off amazon without my phone number, wtf do you guys want it for?) and then they want my e-mail address (why? I'm not buying anything off you, I don't want your crap) and then they have the gall to charge your card to check if it's valid? Why? Other stores can check if your card details are valid without charging the damn thing.

Seriously I don't get it. It's not like SE are incapable of accepting Credit/Debit cards themselves, they've done it for FFXI for years. I am extremly unhappy with going through a third-party (that I've never even heard of before) just to pay for something. Gah.

I'm not sure we need to get a clickandbuy account Ket, after reading this i wen't back and removed my main credit card from the account, i added a prepaid card instead. I'll be closing that clickandbuy account as soon as we get a confirmation that it's not needed to play FFXIV.

Did you use the "unregister" options on the Square Enix Account site? Because I have a feeling that just unlinks the ClickandBuy account from your SquareEnix account, and not unlink your credit card from the ClickandBuy crap.

I've heard that if you choose that ultimatepay thing you can choose to just buy crysta using paypal (and of course paypal usually accepts any credit cards) but it mentions there might be a surcharge of some kind.

Will be a pain to have to keep remembering to buy more crysta every month though.

No i just went to clickandbuy.com and registered a different card to the account, since i don't know if we'll need some sort of active card/merchant in the account to start the game, this card i added is one of those prepaid cards that you can add credit to it.

Had a look around the ultimatepay part of the site. You can pick Paypal, but it makes you sign in and can't just pay using a card directly like most paypal sites usually let you. There's an option to just pay by VISA, but then in fine print it says "using Moneybookers™ online payment service" -- which sounds even shadier than the clickandbuy thing.

I'm really surprised at SE not letting you just pay them directly. Is this some kind of RMT blocking mechanism or something?

I'd been avoiding it, since I don't use eBay and as I've said I absolutely hate having my money handled through some kind of third-party, but it looks like I'm finally going to have to sign up for PayPal. SMH SE.

I've been buying and selling using paypal since 2003, i've never had a single issue. I've never even heard of ClickAndBuy though, so i'll see where this takes us.

Got my accounts registered, my active POL ID linked, added my character slot to my service account, got my security token activated, busy installing the game right now to patch later.

I should be all ready to beat the rush when the servers go online!

(I'm not as pissed off about the ClickandPay thing anymore, even though it still sucks.)

In other news, this game is taking forever to install. Only halfway so far after like 20 minutes. I hear the day-0 patches are around 300MB total, lets hope they fixed their patcher.

I wonder if I should actually drink out of this tumbler or not...

The patcher seems to be working pretty well, even though I'm getting 0 remote connections it's patching at 700KB/sec. I think it now cycles through music every couple of minutes instead of playing the same track for hours at a time, since it's playing different music now than earlier.

Im gonna try and talk gamestop into giving me a copy right before they close. Although having worked a lot of retail and customer service I kinda hate doing it.

Ket did you order from amazon.com or amazon.co.uk?

GAME.co.uk

It's sort of like the UK version of Gamestop? They're not affiliated though as far as I know. I always pre-order from GAME because you pay nothing up front and very often they send you the game early.

Ket: You suck

Yarr: If I can get mine early, do you want me to make .isos for the discs in case you can't get them to hand it over? They probably won't be able to.

Off to get Game Informer and reserve something and they might though.

Honestly I don't think getting the disc early is as important as getting your registration code early, which a torrent can't help you with. That registration site is going to get hammered, just like it was when open beta opened, and there's a hell of a lot more steps to get through this time.

Actually installing the game and fully patching it took me about 45 minutes to install and another 45 minutes to patch.
