So, the Vanity System finally hits in 2 weeks. Some of that useless (but nice looking) gear shall now become useful! Anybody got any plans? Anything in mind?
A reminder of the rules and how it works:
- Vanity system works by copying the appearance of an item and placing that appearance on another piece of gear. The new gear keeps it's original stats but takes on the appearance of the copied item.
- The name of the item changes to the copied item's name. If you copy a Coliseum Shawl onto an Allagan Robe of Casting, the item will be renamed to Coliseum Shawl, but have all the stats of the Allagan Robe. A small red looking icon will appear where the gear dye color usually is to signify the item has been altered. Oddly, it keeps the original gears' icon.
- The "copied" gear is not lost during the process, and is only required in your inventory for the copying process. You can put it back on a retainer afterwards. It is not mentioned whether the gear becomes bound and whether you can just sell gear back after copying it.
- While not explicitly mentioned as possible, weapons are shown in the list on the menu so you should be able to do it to weapons too.
- A catalyst is required to make the copy, which comes in different grades. Almost exactly the same as materia catalysts. They seem to come from crafting/gathering, and are not only graded but specific to a tradecraft. Presumably you need a Leatherworker prism to copy gear normally repaired by a leatherworker.
- An item can be reverted back to it's original state; it's an option on the menu. Unsure if a catalyst is required to do this.
- It was mentioned in the past that vanity gear will not work in PvP. Presumably the item will turn back into it's normal look while inside the Wolves' Den.
- You must be able to equip the gear you wish to use as vanity -- No wearing plate armor on mages, nor can you wear another job's AF armor.
- The copied item must be of equal or lower level to the equipped gear -- No making your level 20 monk look like it's wearing gear you picked up from Coil.
- The gear you're wearing and the gear you're copying must occupy the same number of armor slots! Cowls (Body+Head) cannot be made to only occupy the body slot or vice versa -- Sadly that means no copying the Odin armor.
Screenshots from the promotional site: (Not only is this guy a hacker and wearing two Hero's Rings of Slaying, but they're blue tier instead of green now?)

So, given the above list, is there anything people are interested in trying?
Notably, there appears to be no rule that states you can't use seasonal event gear. Other than gear that occupies lots of slots (reindeer suit), the likes of bikinis, reindeer hats, santa outfits, Lightning/Snow set, valentine's apron, etc, are all fair game.
Are some of you looking to turn your armor into bikinis?
Anybody want to wear the crystal tower armor sets over their myth sets?
Will Kio be permanently wearing that Chocobo mask?
Is there a cool set of lower level dungeon gear you'd rather be wearing (battlemage/foestriker set)?
Will Rushal ever remove his reindeer hat?
Can tanks finally go back to wearing shields and not Allagan Dinnerplates?
Subligars. Subligars everywhere.
Maybe you'd like to always be wearing that Gamblers/Butchers Crown?
Are we going to be farming Thornmarch for endless amounts of Moogle popup books?
Personally, my AF2 armor would be my choice of armor for Paladin anyway so I wouldn't change anything there. However, it'd be nice to not have to wear that goofy face covering black mage AF hat. Also the Royal Vest from CT looks nicer than the WHM AF2 vest IMO. During seasonal events (Christmas, etc) I'd also consider replacing my entire set with Christmas stuff to raid dungeons in.
What are your plans? Lets hear them!
