Don't forget, this is tomorrow. http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl ... faf81affc3 Quote: That's 6AM EST, 3AM PST. Kind of early, but I'm sure it'll all flood to the web if you'd rather wait til the next day. Don't forget these live producer letters are also in Japanese (with a live twitter update of answers to questions.) SE recently had an embargoed media world tour, showing off new things to the press to be revealed. We will most likely get all that same info/media/etc during this live show. There has already been a few leaked magazine scans showing off Uldah/Limsa. I'd post them but they're terrible, someone needs to buy a new scanner. I'm sure some better ones will pop up later and I'll post those. |

Found something better than scans: Hopefully these videos stay working. They're currently "unpublished" and only accessible by link. |

Nah, pretty certain there's people in the LS with better PCs than mine. I bought mine before 1.0 came out, just before the i7 sandybridge was a thing, and I'm still on a 400-series card. An i7 XXXXk with a 680/690 is gonna blow it out of the water. |

Oh, and there are a lot of new articles on Massively that make a good read: The battle is joined: Starting new and fighting through Final Fantasy XIV's relaunch The first few moments of playing a new game are going to be crucial to any player. With an eye toward the game's original version, I went through the process of starting a new character, working through early quests, and seeing how the game plays at both lower and higher levels. Land and Hand: Crafting and gathering in Final Fantasy XIV's relaunch FFXIV's crafting and gathering systems have always been more involved than those of other games, and the relaunch continues this trent. Take a look at how the game makes crafting and gathering classes relevant and fun to play while clearing away some of the old version's cumbersome elements Final Fantasy XIV's Yoshida on PvP, chocobos, and mobile apps After playing the game, I had an opportunity to sit down with Naoki Yoshida and ask some questions about what I had seen, and in many cases what I hadn't yet seen. If you want to know more of what the game will feature beyond the beta, take a look. Massively Exclusive: A dinner with Final Fantasy XIV's Naoki Yoshida And after the last set of questions, I had a chance to sit down with the man himself to talk more about the process of taking a game and blowing it up just to remake it again. This is all about the process leading to that decision and what influences the relaunch we're getting. Touring La Noscea and Thanalan in Final Fantasy XIV My time spent at the Final Fantasy XIV tour didn't just include a preview of the areas to be found in the upcoming beta. No, we proud and few got the chance to also explore some of the game's other iconic areas, areas closed off at the start of the beta but slated for opening later on in the testing process. |

why the fuck doesn't this have a full screen option? and if you adjust the benchmark window's position at all so you can actually see most of what's going on your score goes down, kinda retarded lol |

Interesting note: "Maximum" actually turns OFF some of the optimization options, such as Occlusion Culling (don't render polygons you can't even see) and LOD (use low-poly models for things in the distance) -- turning either of these options off is pretty damn stupid. Got an extra 500 or so points on my maximum bench for putting them back on. As for issues with the benchmark. Beta forums mention all sorts of problems with different things working for various people. I've read everything from reinstalling drivers, to disabling all overclocking, to using catalyst control center to revert graphics card to default settings all working for different people. So can't really help much. |

Post subject: | Re: Producer Letter Live V |
Yeah, I noticed that too. I'd probably kill the LOD shit because I'm a graphics freak but I'd definitely keep the Occlusion Culling on, as it makes no sense to turn it off if it's rendering shit you can't even see. |

I tried recording the two benchmark settings and running them side-by-side to see what the difference was. The answer is: not that much really. Ignore the benchmark scores, because having Fraps running pretty much halves them. The higher quality setting has a bunch more anti-aliasing (that you might not be able to see easily through YouTube), nicer shadows, and looks kind of blurry sometimes thanks to the depth of field effect. But overall, I don't think most people would notice the difference other than the massive drop in frame rate. |

So what's the consensus, did the graphics get "better" since alpha? Or is it all in my head and I just got used to it? I recall everything looking oddly "flat", almost like it was cel-shaded by accident. But now it doesn't bother me so it's either fixed, better, or I stopped caring. |

Re-watched the "tour" video, noticed a few things: - Think I saw a Wind Elemental, except it looked like one of the old FFXI ones (whirlwind with a "core") instead of the FFXIV one (fairy/sprite thing). - Looks like glowing/animating weapons now do so while they're sheathed. Saw plenty of people with glowing Ifrit weapons on their backs. - A sprinting animation! Not just a sped-up running animation. Wonder if they finally balanced sprint though. The fact you could have it up 50% of the time and it ran as fast as a Chocobo was a little silly. - New Ul'dah town music is much better, doesn't look like the town changed much though. Speaking of which, where's Limsa Lominsa? - Pretty sure I spotted a few "crafter AF" walking around town, like a cook. - There's a bard at Moraby Drydocks, he actually pulls out a harp and uses it to cast a spell, FFXI style. |

In the controller video when Yoshi casts protect, his char went to active mode before casting... I don't understand why they'd bring that stupid shit back. |

The environments look better/not as pixalated but the shading on the actual characters looks extremely off to me still. Like they're 10xs brighter than the lightning of everything surrounding them so that they look constantly washed out. At the beginning of one of the videos where it shows the character sitting while time transitions from day to dark but the character's own shadows don't darken equally to his environment. I guess it's something I gotta get used to as it probably wont change at this point but it's hard lol. They need more shadows on them or something. Even the dragoon armor looks slimey not shiney. As for my benchmark score it's artificially high for max settings since I don't have 1080 res. But I have to say it looked really impressive and I hope whatever settings it used I can default in the full game. |

You will be able to run it fine, in Alpha there was some stupid settings that were demanding on the graphics card, and turning them off was almost no difference at all for a good FPS boost. |
