FINAL FANTASY XIV PLAYSTATION® 4 BETA ANNOUNCED
FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Coming to PlayStation® 4

LONDON (9th September, 2013) – Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products, today announced that the opening of beta tests on the PlayStation® 4 version of FINAL FANTASY® XIV: A Realm Reborn from Saturday the 22nd of February 2014 and a free service that will allow players to switch from playing the game on the PlayStation® 3 to the PlayStation® 4

Square Enix Co.,Ltd (Based in Shinjuku ward Tokyo, CEO: Yusuke Matsuda,) today announced the date for the start of beta tests on the PlayStation® 4 (PS4) version of FINAL FANTASY® XIV: A Realm Reborn (FFXIV: ARR).

Beta testing will commence on the PS4 version of FFXIV: ARR, on Saturday the 22nd of February 2014.

The FFXIV: ARR game service is now live on Windows PC and the PlayStation® 3 (PS3), and a PS4 version is currently in development. Essential work to increase the number of servers and strengthen the service environment, with the aim of alleviating the crowding on existing servers is also in progress.

Furthermore, those who are currently playing the PS3 version of FFXIV: ARR will not have to re-buy the game on PS4 and will be able to transition to playing on PS4 at no additional cost. They will even be able to carry over their character data and continue playing on the new platform.

Further information on the PS4 beta tests and the PS4 version transition service will be released soon and we hope everyone will have a great experience with FFXIV: ARR.

This was announced at the SCEJA press conference earlier. The PS4 version's beta test will start on "launch day". This is actually the Japanese PS4 release date, which is 2014-02-22 (Feb 22nd). This is also good news because with the PS4 version's release, the PC version should get it's DX11 upgrade.

That's awesome news. Now I can buy the PS3 version and not worry about triple dipping for the same game, just to get Vita crossplay on the PS4.

oh fuck you guys. I pre-ordered my PS3 Collectors Edition and then Best Buy fucked up and didn't order any for Canada... So I have nothing... and im very pissed about it.

A recent interview has said that while the PS3 -> PS4 upgrade is free, doing so removes the PS3 version from your account. Your account will have PS4 access but not PS3 access. You can of course either purchase the PS3 version again, or just buy the PS4 version, and get them all linked to your account at once. But I imagine that this is a non-issue for most people as once you've got the PS4 version you have no reason at all to use the PS3 version.
