its fun to run around town as bard with swiftsong and then shoot flaming arrow at people/places :)

i bet they change that. before they do, we need to have a linkshell event where we cover the entire town in flames.

It'd be nice to have everything a mouse click away, but I don't think I could personally deal with all the icons. haha. I basically copied Ket's layout, but I may need to add a 6th bar at some point.

I have two vertical ones at the right, like whisps, but not stacked atop eachother. This is for my incidentals, like my chocobo, potions, non-combat pets, things I may need to use for a certain quest, or something. Much like how I used those bars in WoW.

I then keep two horizontal bars (1 and 2) atop of the health/mana bars for my default moves. I may have to add a 3rd bar, depending on the situation. We'll see.

My last current bar is just for job change stuff. I'll probably just have the one bar above my chat box for my most-used jobs. The rest one of the one-off jobs, if I need to craft some random armorcrafting item, or something, I'll just open up my character screen and click on the gear swap icon in that UI.

I'll reserve the 12 buttons for my main magic jobs/crafts.

At level 50, you should need all three "main" bars.

Although just your class actions + sprint will fit on 2 bars, once you unlock jobs you will get an extra 5 abilities, plus 4-5 cross-class abilities. You also mustn't forget the two class abilities you learn by doing your quest line. There are 12 actions per bar, and I have 27 actions at 50 PLD, not including sprint, limit break or any macros. So that's 12+12+3 = 3 bars just for your base class actions.

To my knowledge, all classes learn abilities and traits at exactly the same levels, so it should be the same for everyone.

And once you get serious with macros you may even need a 4th main bar.

I'm also very much looking forward to having "shared" bars.

EDIT: Miscounted, 27 not 26.

That makes sense. Though it does make me long for the the ol' alt/ctrl macro set up of 11, though. haha.

I guess we'll have quicker access to more abilities by having them attached to all these visible bars with hotkey mappings to them, but visually I find it ugly.

Something I never tried but might be possible. You can set your own hotkeys for every action bar.

Can you hotkey, say, bar 4, put all your macros on it, and then hide the bar? Will the macros/abilities still trigger when you press their hotkey?

Could do that, if it works. Might be disorienting until you learn what key does what though.

I feel slightly gimped with a controller, since we can't utilize the extra side bars without using a mouse. I will probably make one for job changes, quest items, or other shit I don't need on the fly (like Rid mentioned). I already play with a hybrid controller and mouse anyways.

One positive thing about the controller, it allows 16 actions on each bar. I've only been using 2 bars for my level 50 jobs. I am still not fully comfortable with the controls though. It's a lot different than before. I

Another idea. Once we can have UI add-ons (which is still supposed to be coming, it just might not be til 2.2 or 2.3 -- the hotbar config file is even called addons.cfg) you could probably quite easily make hotbars that only appear while you're holding certain keys.

E.g. Hold alt and hotbar 2 appears. Hold ctrl and hotbar 3 appears. Hold both and hotbar 4 appears, etc. Then put all of them in the same spot above hotbar 1. Would probably be really easy to script.

if you notice on the right side it looks like a giant hotbar, its really 9 and 10 overlapped. they overlap by 2 squares, so i just lined them up and didn't use the last 2 squares of hotbar 9.
