If you havent heard yet, they're making a movie of this book. Its from the same stuido that did Lord of the Rings, not that it means anything. It has a huge budget, and from the trailers I've seen, it looks true to the book.

I'm not sure how different the LoTR books were from the movie, but I'm assuming some stuff was left out. I know the trilogy TGC is from (His Dark Materials) isnt too long for each book, prolly less than 2k pages, but it spans a lot of events.

Hopefully the movie's good. If you haven't read the books either, they're good, but kinda for kid novels. Its still my favorite book series anyways.

I read all of the books in 5th grade, and again in 7th for a book report. I havent found another series yet that satisfied my needs of imagination. Deffinatley kids books, but I enjoyed every second. I dont know if i want to see the movie though cause I am affraid i will be deepley dissapointed. The characters I built in my head are nothing like the ones in the movie, I imagined the main character looking something like Real from Ergo Proxy, the actress they chose upsets me.

I read the lord of the rings trilogy, the hobbit, and the silmarillion. I used to be a hardcore LOTR fanboy. The movies missed a lot of stuff, but they were still damn good IMO. People already complained about how long the movies were. If those movies 100% followed the books they would have been much longer and drawn out.

The Golden Compass trailer looks cool. I never read the books. I like fantasy shit, so there's a good chance I'll like the movie even if it's cheesy. Narnia was cheesy as hell and it's still one of my favorite movies.

The first time I read the book I was in 6th or 7th grade, and the characters didnt look anything like I picture them now. The actors are sorta similar to what I thought, but it won't be exactly the same. I just hope they make the other two completely awesome.

I saw a commercial for this. I had no idea what it was for/about, but it has Nicole Kidman in it.

Ooh lala.

I want to reread these and see if I can pick up on these atheist undertones now that I'm older and probably more able to see them.

The books were a really good read though, for anyone who hasn't read them yet.

its funny how they focus on the "killing of god" like the guy wants to be violent and hurt someone. assuming he even said that without being taken out of context.

i also find it funny that they are so against marketing children's stories laden with adult philosophical themes. unless it's THEIR philosophy.

I just saw the trailer about an hour ago and thought it looked kind of cool. After reading that article about the creator being an atheist just makes me want to see the movie more. I support killing God in the minds of children. But I don't hate CS Lewis. Narnia was a good story.

Yeah I watched that video already. My favorite part was:

"What's been hacked?"
"Prodigy's down. He's got total control of our Geocities page."
"Dear God..."

lol. I had a Geocities page back in the day.

I was one in elementary school. Until one of the kids got pissed the fuck off at me for telling on them, and threw me in what we called ( the urine pits) which was really a bathroom with bad plumbing so bad that all the urine gathered on the floor. My super absorbent 100 % cotton hall monitor outfit was ruined and I felt I had to throw in the gloves.

Au contraire mon frère--I'd say it's reasonable to think that you were one considering you spent over two years of your adult life in a constant state of power-trip by playing an online video game.
