My idea of punk is Strung Out, NoFX, Rufio, 88 Fingers Louie, etc. but some might have a different opinion. Some think that you can only be punk if you are indy and if you are on a major label, you're a sellout. I'll give you a quote from a band that I consider 'punk.'

Meh, not trying to sound mean, but I dislike GC, Simple Plan, New Found Glory, and groups like that. They're more of "Pop Punk" and their songs just annoy me =/

Oh fuck! i love this song, but its 1 eighth off my beloved hardcore metal category, so i'm not gonna listen to it.

I remember back in High School, the groups where as if band categories made tags on people. Ok, here are the thuggs, here are the death metal people, here are the punks rockers and here are the pop music people.
And with that they would preach about they so called "category" of music and why should you listen to their music and why this and that and blah!

You like something screw the boundries, i put Korn, system of a down, slipknot, destiny's child, and eminem all in the same cd, and listen to them like i was listening to the best music ever made. I dont care what category they were, if i liked the song i'd listen.

Yet again, taste cannot be discussed, what you like might be totally different from what i like.

Um.. I don't not like them simply because they are "Pop Punk". I just don't like the sound of pop punk, just not what I'm in to. I don't think there's anything wrong with it though. I'm not set into a type of music, I like a lot of different kinds but pop punk isnt one of them for me.

The issue deeper to me is that a majority of these bands aren't liked because they have any redeeming musical value.

Good Charollete - Even though they were around since the time of that old MTV show Undergrads(they did the theme song), they weren't shit until after they hosted MTV's Rock Show every night for a year, using that show to promote their own music to a fan base it developed. These people were actually told how cool GC was, and believed it. They didn't get anywhere with musical value, just playing their own video every night until every pop lover thought they had to like them to be cool.

Simple Plan didn't develop a following until MTV picked them up(they are the definition of an MTV band, they have done nothing WITHOUT MTV's label all over it). This band was NEVER punk. Thus they are just lying to people's faces, which is just insulting. And in this case specifically, this is the worst music I've heard in years, and I listed to school bands of people trying to emulate Radiohead constantly.

New Found Glory - Someone along the way tried to play the band off as punk, which they are not. They were alternative, but molded into our beloved Emo style. I can permit their music for the most part, but they played here in Voodoo and I refuse to go near the screaming 13 year old mobs and older teenage girls which make up their fan base. There's a shallowness in letting other people decide what you like that I can't stand.

Granted, I follow the belief that most people don't know what is really good, and just want someone to tell them. MTV proves this is majorily true. I'm guilty of liking a few Emo bands as much as I'd hate to admit it because frankly, I hate Emo people. My Chemical Romance and The Used are both fairly good with nice catchy, albeit sometimes incredibly whiney songs. But I'll stick to my AFI and Misfits.

I pretty much agree with Dinav, but I don't hate EMO people lol. It's just not what I like.

I used to love NSYNC in my teeny bopper days. I went to a concert of their's like 4-5 years ago. I never liked Backstreet Boys or 98 degrees though. NSYNC was like the only good boy group in my opinion.

i usually fear goths, but i went to the mall last night with a friend and she hangs out with those kinda people, suprisingly, they were all nice to me, even though i dont dress like them or like their music, there not bad people, jes they were all hitting on me because half of them were bisexual

I wouldn't mind pop-punk if all these little teeny mtv bitches didnt call those bands punk, It's a shame that none of them know what real punk is.

It only shows how shallow you are yourselfs.

And those who actually take time to know people know this. The biggest assholes in my school were those who judge other people for what they looked like.
