Ok, some of you just have no idea what could be done in ffxi
with memlocs and hex editors.
Ok, maybe some of you have some idea of what could be done,
but dont be fooled by what some people say that might sound
outragious... could be just the opposite.
I, in the other hand, cant seems to find myself actually
acompleshing what this person claims to have, but could
be very dumb computer-wise compated to this peticular
fellow. I do however believe him, specially watching the
video he made, which is found
here.

First off, yes gold beds are programmed in... but i don't think they're available in game yet, like alot of items that are programmed in but not avaialbe.
After watching the video I thought the '.' looked familiar and I popped open FFXITool to confirm my suspicion. If you check under Object(C) of FFXITool at the very top are the beds, plus a bunch of empty items beneath named '.'
Sure enough, the first item under the Royal Bed matches the item in the video (table icon, . name, Rare/EX, description of -1 1)
snapshot of FFXITool

[edit]so theoretically, If you figured out what was causing you to get the beds, you could adjust it to get any item in that list.[/edit]

[edit... again...]You know... I wonder what would happen if you were to introduce an item that technically doesn't exist in the game, but is programmed in, into the economy. a.k.a. giving somebody a Gold Bed that isn't supposed to exist in the game.
This is very true, i have seen videos of this done. And yes,
it was a japanese player pulling a cheap one. He got the "." as well.

The '.' never became anything other than a "placeholder item", as you put it. It was just one of the several beds that I was able to fish up. Along with it were Bronze Beds, Mahogany Beds, Noble's Beds, Royal Beds, and a few others.
I tried putting the '.' in my moghouse once, but it had no item model, so just showed up invisible. I'll check my characters, to see if any of them have any of the '.' items still, and I'll upload a screenshot. (One was a rare/ex item, and there were 2 or three normal '.' items.)
Thats what the hacker said, and i do believe him.
