As some may know, I quit this game somewhere in May. As an alternative I went to play Guild Wars, reached the level cap and came back to FFX around the end of June because I started to miss people in this game. The community in Guild Wars is a joke.
But now again I'm in a serious need of motivation. I gave all my stuff away before quitting, including all my gil (7mil) and recently I got kicked from my linkshell (jos) for no apparent reason so I'm left with nothing to get my ninja back on its feet.

So before I go waste a half year of my life farming all those millions back, I'm wondering if it's actually worth it with the way things are going now.
Is the end-game ever any fun? I don't have much experience with it because so far I've only spent about 10 seconds or so in total in a HNM alliance to get a spirits within off before getting kicked out again.
From reading forums though it seems that nowadays the entire HNM scene is under JP control and land kings never go without much MPKing and drama.
Is it just me or is this game only about walking around in Jeuno with incredibly expensive +1 equipment that no one else but you will ever be able to afford, or standing in front of the AH all day looking at and dreaming about items you'll never be able to afford in your life?

I'm asking those who disagree with me what they like so much about this game, what is the light that keeps you playing in these dark days of a messed up economy, the rise of IGE, gilsellers, MPKing and drama everywhere?
Can you people give me any reasons to stay and tips on how to enjoy this game? Or is this game just nothing for me after all, maybe I should go back to playing games with actual gameplay like Unreal Tourament or Counter-Strike which are currently collecting dust on my hard drive.

yo pirato you know you're my bud and i dont have much but i'll give/help in whichever way i can to get you back on your feet if you want. but..um..i've never been in HNM action before so i wouldnt know..but..alot of people have been raving about how fun ballista is and stuff. like..theres a set time of when it starts/ends and stuff like that and everyone says its really addicting. i dunno..just something that i've seen keep people playing. dunno if this helps.

Plus multiplayer FPS games just don't seem fun anymore due to the huge amount of cheating going on and bitching and moaning whenever you kill someone. FFXI has the best community by far.

I would say friends and that's about it.

End game totally sucks there is nothing there imo. 3hrs to try to fight one thing when everyone should be able to fight it is ridiculous. The fact that game is racially biased is crap too.

End game will suck in any mmorpg. You can't offer content to keep players busy without it being very repetitive.


Only reason I'm still playing is because they are stretching CoP's story over 2 years instead of releasing what is already on the CD >_>.

For me, the game consisted of:
-Beat all story/quest
-Explore all area and see all pretty scenary the game had to offer
-Doing "everything" once (kill biggest NMs and doing all stuff that could potentially haunt me for year if I quit now without finishing them).

Beside that, giving myself personal challenge (soloing something not meant to be soloed...etc) is what kept me from quitting

I'm pretty much done with the "game" part I think. Only thing left are people, but with forum and AIM, I think you can keep contact with some of them at least.

I stay for the people mostly. All other MMOs on the market are filled with players who just jump to MMO to MMO without really staying long enough to build a solid community. I think FFXI right now has the best people. Well, NA wise. ;p

I've tried Ballista once but I didn't really like it. It was more of a lag fest with people gang raping everyone like crazy. And when I wanted to duel with someone, there would always be an asshat finding us who joins in ruins it.

I still haven't done that. Maybe I'll stay around untill I have, maybe even get a piece of AF2.

And friends, for now that's the main reason why I haven't pressed the delete character and uninstall button again. I'm happy if I can help a friend and make him/her happy. But for the rest I just hate the game.

My honest advice to you is to stay away from FFXI. The game is in shambles, going steadily downhill. Hell, I just got kicked out of FS for being too opinionated (you know, like openly disagreeing with MPK or mob stealing efforts by ls members/staff). And with this JP vs. NA "I MPK you, then you MPK me, then I MPK you" drama, its gonna get real ugly in the coming months.

No, Keston you got kicked out because 99% of the people in the LS hated you and you contributed nothing to the LS but "opinions". Opinions are fine, and IMO you had a few good ones, but FS just didn't need what you brought to the table sometimes. You seem to have very little patience in this game and that doesn't help much in a game that is all about waiting. I hope you find a new LS that can accomodate you better than FS, we just weren't a good fit.

You might want to check that attendance sheet and say that again... I've attended all but maybe 3 events since I joined. And if someone hates you for your opinion, well, they've got thier own problems... maybe they dont realize this is a free country. 99% eh? Funny, no-one refused my help for all those LS events I attended. **shrug** Dont have much patience? Maybe showing up 4 hours prior to our mandatory sky and camping ulli shows no patience, or putting in 6+hrs for certain sky runs. If I remember corerctly u logged during our last sky run to go party, I was one of the people who stayed and participated. No patience is right.. DRG74 {Please Check It}... none indeed. Umm.. if ur gonna suggest these things, show some real proof.

Certain people just cannot stand that someone isnt in alignment with thier view. Like the ones who were willing to participate in MPKin etc, and the forbidden Multi-LS alliance. And people didnt seem to like that I said I didnt condone any MPKin whatsoever. Anyhow, I wish you all the best.. you're right, its not the place for me. I have standard of gameplay, and regardless of who wants me to do wrong, I have more than enuf backbone to stand up for my views... against ls member or staff.

keston was a great player he would often be the only living blm in the blm party in dynamis and not nuking and casting deodorize so mobs wouldn't smell em was a valid contribution :p

yeah keston you're right. everytime someone tries to bring something to your attention instead of thinking about it you decide they're instantly wrong and take advice as an attack and proceed to flame people for it. you getting kicked had nothing to with participating or not, has to do with you being a fucktard and an asshole.

and for the record, how many people have come on here or FS forum and defended you? obviously you're smarter then us all, ALL MIGHTY KESTON!!!

If I remember correctly, the puller just caused the BLM alliance to wipe. Nuking 1 of 12 mobs would be poinless to say the least. I survived, moved away and started raising people as soon as they left.. getting the alliance up faster. If you think one more dead person would help the effort to win/continue at that point, I'd like to hear how. I like to use my brain when I play this game, not act like a lemming.

I'm still confused about the "deodorize" though lol

I'm not sure I should be explaining how this works to a high lvl WHM. But mobs though true sight or not (detecting thru sneak/invis), still track by scent.
