To better track them? Hell they should have been able to see which accounts send gil to those mules. No, I highly doubt they have a tracker yet, otherwise there'd be no way in hell Pens and any other gil seller would be around.

300,000,000,000 Gil / 700 Accounts = Each Gilseller had almost as much gil as Severus.

Seriously though, thats like 420,000,000 gil per account. Think about it, all the money that fell into circulation at christmas had to come from somewhere. It'd be safe to say that gilseller accounts had roughly the same amount of money before the christmas boom, back before the prices of anything ever actually rose up.

Imagine what a single person could buy with 420 million gil before the AH price boom. When Serket Rings were only 6-8 mil instead of 30 mil, Vermillions were 6 mil instead of 20 mil. You could have pretty much bought... everything?

Sadly it all poofed into the ether.

actually i was just writing something along the same lines to someone. I wouldn't be surprised if all they deleted were accounts relating to the mules that hold or transact the gil. But the gil sellers, the actual anchors in the operations, are still fine and dandy in Vanadiel.
SE can delete as many accounts as they want, but unless they are deleting the actual operators it hasn't much effect on the issue what so ever.
Just delays how fast they can restock.

Actually, it puts more demand on them to restock. No gil, means no money for them. Wouldn't surprise me if gil sellers came back in force. Prices are still fairly high, and because gil supply will be low, they'll be able to get more rl money per million gil in game.
If accounts like Baitosai etc don't get deleted, all that will happen is gil sellers become even more desperate for every penny they can possibly make and we'll see them at absolutly everything and in greater number.
Delete the farmers, and then you really set them back and help the FF community.

people seem to think that deleting the gilFARMERS would accomplish something...but they would just make new ones and continue.

IMO deleting that 300 BILLION gil is a much better step. At their current rate, they would have sold that gil for over $5 million...thats a LOT of money that IGE just lost. People sell gil to IGE, who then sells it back to the players at a higher price. That gil that IGE payed for is what got deleted...it hurts them a lot that way. I really doubt that many "gilfarmers" are actual employees of the company IGE. Most of their gil would most likely come from hundreds of thousands of people selling it to them.

Gilfarmers are no different than any of us...everyone makes gil in some way...some of them just happen to sell it to IGE. Banning them wont do anything because they will just come back. There are some from Ifrit that I never ever see anymore...because they were most likely banned. There are new ones constantly leveling to take their place when they get banned. Deleting the gil itself hurts IGE at the core...they have to raise their prices and they are going to lose customers.

700 accounts isn't a lot when you look at it from that being from all of the worlds. It seriously can't be that hard to tell which accounts are RMT, the GMs aren't that stupid.

GMs don't have much to do with tracking RMTs, which is why they don't do anything about it. This was all the Dev team.

300billion gil was to us isnt anything more than a number on a fake world. to IGE its their bread and butter, 300billion woulda been used to pay for the accounts as well as employees. they will now need to cancel some accounts as well as fire gil sellers. if noone can afford gil after a month they will continue to downsize until everntually they cut their losses. keep in mind SE will periodically ban gil seller mules and even the sellers themself if they are involved in the money transactions. . this makes it non profitable buisiness therefore if all goes well gil sellers will drop to nothing.

they set a precident by banning the accounts which holds the gil, lets hope they continue on this path.

Bread and butter likez my blade: jin?

And yeah, that's one step in the right direction by deleted the accounts with the gil. Think about how long it took them to get that much (probably not long but still) and then if they could just delete the ones linked to the same CC (assuming farmers and mules share CC info) then they could potentially purge us of this.

Siren Hair. And don't worry about it. I've spent long enough in SSG with nothing to show for. Don't feel like going back anytime soon, or at least until I finish with NIN sub so I can go by myself.

the gilbuyers would hurt SE too much though. cause the number of people that do it is honestly alot. how else do you think there were so many people willing to buy the items and these sky rocketed prices?

and IGE is going to sue SE for this, claiming that they were legally collecting in game resources for their own purposes, even though those purposes are against ToS

Everyone time you log in you agree to the ToS, in the ToS it states that selling gil for real money is a violation. All square did was follow threw with their word.

It would be very interesting to see if IGE did try to sue SE over this. Funny I used to hear people talk about it the other way round, but deleting accounts isn't against the law, SE has the right to do whatever the hell they want as long as they stop taking your money.

What's kinda funny is SE didn't rob IGE of anything. It's SE's game, they call the shots. SE is just taking their money back to get control over the economy again. (as well as maybe thinking about the general player for once!)

True if SE cant sue IGE for breaking the TOS then IGE cant sue SE for deleting their gils and char so it would be fair break.

Not exactly. Square-Enix can't sue IGE for breaking the Terms of Service because of a loophole they found (Paying for the player's time, not the actually gil). IGE can't sue Square-Enix because that would be like saying "I broke their rules but they ruined my business anyway, so I'd like to sue them."
