Some people have been shitting on ToA about how it's so easy or shallow, but they gotta remember it's only been out a month and it's nowhere near complete. We still have to figure out wtf Odin is up to, we still haven't scored a peek at the Empress, there's strangeness about why the Empire leaves the astral candescence so open for attack, etc. There are npcs who mention how the Candescence plays a role in the flow of life and spirits, and I think it'll be cool to find out more about that, and how Odin (a spirit involved greatly with death, a god destined to die himself, also shown in some myths as related to the pied piper as a guide for spirits) plays into all of it.

I will admit though, the flow of this expansion is very casual.

yeah, it is pretty casual. Seems like it is geared more toward the laid back player (like myself) and not so much the hardcore.

MMOs will always catch flak from some corners when they release an expansion. CoP was too unaccessible towards newer players. ToA focused on expanding the game as a whole, as will also draw some criticism.

Newer players don't need expansion areas... they have the rest of the game to see first.

On a serious note, the expansion is pretty badass imo. The new level spots are amazing, Besieged is cool, and Assualt missions are a nice change of pace. I can't wait for them to release the chocobo circuit and whatever the colosseum has in store for us. Wonder what kind of new NMs they are going to release in the new zones as well...

This expansion is alot better than CoP initially. My only problems was them not releasing AF for the new jobs with the expansion and putting out unfinished missions.... they did that in CoP and that shit is unnacceptable. Highest rank you can get is Superior Private and you can't get into the zone with the Empress or w/e. It is crazy that it appears to be 10 tiers of Assault lol.... Assault is actually fun in some instances, and it appears SE has learned from Limbus and Dynamis.

Yeah Ilm dinged 75 BLU last night.. BLU is overpowered lol.

As much as I hate to admit it....we all know FFXI is a sinking ship. The patch was timely to save many players from quitting for a while. But it will sink...that is why SE is working on FF MMRPG #2 allready.

They won't fix Sea pop item drop rates on tier 2 jailers. SE won't fix the entire 3 kings debacle either. A whole new level of armors and gear could be made available that makes the 3 kings loot inferior, but that would supposedly break the game and make the NMs too easy. Make harder shit then lol. Seems like SE is treading water and making money off of its playerbase while they still can. I don't think I will play another FF RPG made by SE, they seem incapable of learning from their failures.

Actually FFXI was supposed to compete with games like PSO. It surpassed that, and thus they raised the cap from 50 (you can imagine the game with a 50 cap, lol)

FFXI is definitly long past its prime. SE has been pretty smart about releasing content periodically to keep players interested. Hell, they already have the Chocobo race zones ready, but it'll be nearly seven months (according to that timeline thing I think) and almost a year before we start Chocobo breeding. And by that time the next expansion will already be underway if they decide that the playerbase is large enough to support another (not likely).

FFXI was an ineteresting foray into MMOs, I hope SE makes another, although I doubt I'll be around to explore it.

And the drama has been quiet because we're having fun with assault and ToA instead of having fun bitching at each other.

I recently imported Fantasy Earth which is a MMO by SE and pretty much owns FFXI. Look it up, I think you might be interested in it! ONly complaint is all the toons are more goofy looking than the F Humes on FFXI when they are doing anything!

PS. Not a shot at F Humes but you have to admit they look pretty silly when doing anything!

The developers panel during the festival said no details..only that they are working on their next online FF.

You know what I did the other night that was SOOO fun... that Jeuno ballista Dio(something) 2 VS 2 and 1 VS 2, LOL omg sooo much fun! :D

Are people afraid to admit that ToA sucks?


I mean I havent seen any interesting posts at all since it was released. Some new instance type stuff came out, that seems ok, to me it doesnt look half as fun as Dynamis. It looks better on paper than it does in game thanks to the horrible amount of lag and the horrible engine square uses (not drawing all mobs\players).


I mean seriously. I guess for me this is a good thing. I can honestly say I am happy I quit FFXI when I did.


From my point of veiw this game is falling hard.

Nah Assault is alot more fun than Dynamis. Dynamis sucks balls and is boring as hell in comparison. Limbus is more fun as well. ToAU is a good expansion. The new mobs are different. The birds have weird hate characteristics. If you start killing several of them, they become more powerful and use different TP moves and you end up hitting them for less damage. If you feed one a fish it follows you around (NPC ones). Besieged is the only problem with the expansion IMO. 750 people in a zone fighting mobs is just so lagged.

New gear is interesting and some of it is useful. Cerberus was thought to be the only new HNM. Dark Rider is being spotted (Odin) but only one person tried to fight it and he hit it for 0s and got Death casted on him. In addition to Odin, Alexander is supposedly involved in the storyline as well. Lots of interesting stuff. People do not bother posting about the fun stuff on this forum due to them being busy playing the game actually. The new jobs are cool, but I feel BLU is overpowered and has a nerf incoming. SE not having AF ready for the new jobs is an immense failure lol. Overall this expansion is much better than CoP.

Im not reading anything interesting on BG too. The Odin thing i read about, its slightly cool. I assumed more Avatars were coming into the picture but really I think Square dragging the game out like this only hurts more than it helps.

FFXI has enough avatars to be honest... too many more and it will break the game. SMN is overpowered as hell. Of course SE is dragging the game out lol.. what do you think WoW is doing releasing a dungeon with another tier of epics? They are mostly sidegrades (aside from a couple of set bonuses) and the epics look god damn retarded for most classes. Every MMO does this, bleeding you for more money.

The main problem with FFXI is it will never raise the level cap.. well at least I think never. Doing that would make relic upgrades worthless and RDM subjob would break the game. Would have to create a new tier of armor and weapons. SE seems unwilling to make stuff that makes the RoZ 3 kings and sky gear obsolete. I can feel FFXI dying though when I login due to SE's unwillingness to fix obvious problems... 3 kings, CoP wyrms drops, tier 2 jailer pop item droprate, etc. Just depends if enough people are sick of SE's dev teams lame ass excuses and move onto another MMO.

Doubt WoW will be that MMO for most of them, I enjoy WoW and admit it is fun. WoW is fucking ugly as hell in alot of places. Retarded giant shoulderpads and cartoonish character models. Low polygon counts do not help with the characters already looking like they have down syndrome. Vanguard however might be cool... I hope it is lol. I have seen another couple MMOs that look cool as well. FFXI is going to shit not due to ToAU, but due to SE not fixing the broken/retarded aspects of CoP and RoZ.
