another rule of thumb,
if someone hoarding loot from you is on the same level as someone fucking your wife or hitler killing 6million jews, then something is wrong

/sigh... you guys just don't get the point of concepts/metaphors do you? Either that, or failing any real material for rebuttal or counter-argument, you deflect attention to the semantics.

Point is, if someone is being dishonest or unfair to you and your peers linkshell members.. they aren't the so-called friend you're claiming them to be (but you're pretending like they are), and allowing them to continue to cheat you and your peers, contributing to the problem while believing your not making waves is a solution of sorts.

But whatever, continue with the semantics focus if it pleases. I've realized most attempts at intelligent arguments in these forums eventually come to that when one side runs out of material.

Maybe you shouldn't be looking for intelligent debate in a video game forum, then?

Indeed. I made the silly mistake of thinking the majority of audience/players of MMORPGs were 20-25+ and capable of understanding and responding to discussion on that level. My apologies. Let me rephrase... oink oink

Honestly, thats kind of a cop-out move Ponuh, haha. Someone who is FINALLY able to match your wittyness (<--is that a word?) starts a little debate and you say:

OMG NVM THIS FORUMZ FOR THE VIDEOGAIMZS NOOB! NO SERIOUZ DIZCUSSIONS ALLOWED.

But yeah Kest, your metaphor was a "little" off lol. Its hard to compare finding out someone stole your haidate compared to someone stealing your wife.

Yeah, you'd be angry in both situations but, you would be a whole different type of angry to the later...

we all knew each other in ckd, all "grew up" in ffxi together. for me, there was no such thing as this concept of someone in my linkshell hoarding loot and not being my friend. i feel sorry for people who have to put up with a linkshell where they keep one eye always focused in paranoia on people they distrust.

if it seemed like someone was hoarding loot we would just cheer him or her on. everyone seemed happy. that is, until we started inviting 2nd generation nubs into the LS and ppl started whining about loot. ...

Enter The Ulgokliem :?

I've been through alot of LSs, and I've seen it happen many times. In the LS I made, I made it my biz to see that it never occurred. And those who displayed the tendency for selfish acts found themselves on the out looking in before the knew what hit them. Also, I made a system that that filtered out lootwhores. When its clear that you have to work your way up and earn your right (ie. jobs don't earn you rights), those inclined to the contrary passed through pretty quick.

The HNM scene revolves around conquest, accomplishment, and loot. Most of any group of people that do things together will become friends, and have fun. However, human nature doesn't remain suppressed (or hidden) forever.

Yeah i'd say no to both, but think of it this way. If a guy stole your parking spot you'd be angry, and say "hey man wtf, thats my parking spot!"

But if a Mikey decided to feel your manhood in your sleep (assuming you dont play for that team) You'd be hella fucking pissed, and probably say something along the lines of "HEY MAN WTF, DONT TOUCH ME THERE! IMA KIRR YOU!"

Both situations might of garnered the same respone, but theyre two completely different reactions.

That line right there kind of kills your whole argument. You grew up with those players so of course youre going to be happy for them when they see items go their way. But if i just join a shell, and Yarr is catching everything that drops, its ony natural to be thinking HAY GUYS WHATS GOING ON?!

It doesnt make you a lootwhore to stand up and ask why. It only makes you a lootwhore if you keep tabs on whos getting what, when, and where.

using yarr as an example is like the exact opposite of reality
but anyway, i'd say no matter if it's a friend or not, i would not be one to speak out against an LS member regarding loot. i would speak out FOR an LS member regarding loot, for instance if someone needs something i'd say "let's get it for this person." that's the positive way to approach it. maybe set up a future date to help this person get what they need.

it just seems kinda selfish and lootwhorish to whine about someone else GETTING loot. what good could possibly come of it? Think about it. it's only going to cause a rift. drama. plant the seeds of a future ls collapse. you should be the glue not the scissors

That is entirely my point. Doesn't matter that the response differs (this is the semantic part), you'd object is the point. Doesn't "make you the problem" for doing it.

That would hint at assuming the only reason to speak up is on your own behalf. Its not.

Also, if one person getting something over someone else who has been working twice as hard and putting in crazy effort... both are you linkshell members. You cannot please everyone... so speak out for one person means (supposedly) speaking out against another.

But now the context of your argument gets a little narrow... I don't think many would say someone saying "WTF, Why should HE get the Osode... I WANT IT!" is not selfish. Someone saying "Well, Member B has been to 30 sky runs, and deserves it more than the guy making the previous statement (lets call him Member A, who has been to 3)"... I certainly wouldn't call objecting making drama. So you wouldn't object to Member A claiming the Osode for himself? Be it either against another deserving LS member, or yourself? And if to respond, please respond to the principle of what I am saying... and not, "No I don't want loot".

why even cry about member A getting anything? instead be happy for A, and then announce a priority for member B to receive osode at some point.

I'm pretty sure there's a few people out there who'd love to punch me in the face for some of the shit I've said on this messageboard... I'm not trying to agree with Keston, but I think people are trying to downplay how seriously some people take this game and the lolinternet. And umm, not to sound like a asshole but why are 3 dudes who don't even play ffxi anymore arguing about it?

I doubt the argument will go anywhere :shout:

Whisp has his opinion.
Keston has his opinion.
They will not change eachother's minds.

Let's all be happy and play something other than FFXI 8)

I agree with Whisp that some people take this game way too seriously and I think they probably have pschological problems if they are still playing with over 200+ game day playtime lol.

But, having said that...I know from experience in FFXI that certain jobs need gear to remain competitive. Whisp you played jobs that could wear a subligar and still be in high demand, I can kinda understand the flip side because I played jobs that were almost exclusively gear dependent (as opposed to mage jobs, which are basically ability/spell dependent). The best spells were much easier to get than the best gear.

I understand a little of both sides. My two cents.

You have the chance to speak up before Member B gets shafted by Member A. You'd let it happen? You'd be naive to LET member A get his way just to keep everyone lickin' dick so to speak.

"HEY MAN.. YOU'RE REALLY GREAT. HAVE I TOLD YOU YOU ARE GREAT? I KNOW YOU'VE ONLY BEEN TO 3 SKY RUNS IN 8 MONTHS.. BUT WE LOVE YOU MAN. YOU DESERVE THAT OSODE"

Are you really serious?

In any case, I agree with Kluya, and will agree to disagree. We're going in circles.

For the same reason your emo/suicidal/bitchin/self-loathing/feelsorryforyourself ass is always brining up your treatment by CKD way back in the day... passes the time.

Let the flame wars begin.
