What in the hell are you talking about, Whisp? I know you have a profound interest in this topic, and sometimes when someone has an interest they seek to debate, but honestly I have no fucking clue where you're possibly discerning my stance on stem cell research from this thread. What in the hell are you talking about...
Despite good lyrics not needing to be topical and relevant, I'll post a song or two that first popped into my mind. I actually first thought about posting Bob Dylan or something but decided that's obviously too easy and then I thought about posting Cannibal Corpse ahaha
Here's something topical:
Porcupine Tree--Sound of Musik
Quote:
Hear the sound of music
Drifting in the aisles
Elevator prozac
Stretching on for miles
The music of the future
Will not entertain
It's only meant to repress
And neutralise your brain
Soul gets squeezed out
Edges get blunt
Demographic
Gives what you want
Now the sound of music
Comes in silver pills
Engineered to suit you
Building cheaper thrills
The music of rebellion
Makes you wanna rage
But it's made by millionaires
Who are nearly twice your age
One of the wonders of the world is going down
It's going down I know
It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares
No-one cares enough
I also like the lyrical style of The Decemberists. The music is simple but arranged nicely and it actually has some artistic merit, rather than:
"Terror and ugliness reveal what death really means
And in hatred you see men as they really are "
Which is terrible. That's prose, basically
Quote:
There is a city by the sea
A gentle company
I don’t suppose you want to
And as it tells its sorry tale
In harrowing detail
Its hollowness will haunt you
Its streets and boulevards
Orphans and oligarchs it hears
A plaintive melody
Truncated symphony
An ocean’s garbled vomit on the shore,
Los Angeles, I’m yours
Oh ladies, pleasant and demure
Sallow-cheeked and sure
I can see your undies
And all the boys you drag about
An empty fallow fount
From Saturdays to Mondays
You hill and valley crowd
Hanging your trousers down at heel
This is the realest thing
As ancient choirs sing
A dozen blushing cherubs wheel above
Los Angeles my love
Oh what a rush of ripe élan
Languor on divans
Dalliant and dainty
But oh, the smell of burnt cocaine
The dolor and decay
It only makes me cranky
Oh great calamity,
Ditch of iniquity and tears
How I abhor this place
Its sweet and bitter taste
Has left me wretched, retching on all fours
Los Angeles, I’m yours
I'll just post these two for now. Honestly there are much better Dream Theater songs to have posted. Voices has pretty decent lyrics.
Somewhere along the lines, metal fans got it in their mind that metal was the revitalization of classical music, or something. This whole "virtuostic, neo-classical, you wouldn't get the complexity" mindset is really obnoxious.
