i dont see why people argue music so much.. its fucking pointless really.. its just another one of those endless bullshit "my music is better than your music because i said so, with no REAL reason behind why my music is better than yours". yes, i said no REAL reason and dont fucking argue about it.

theres no one music thats better than another type, if its metal, r&b, punk, the shit that ponuh listens to.. and even the horrible crap that my country produces, reggeton... god i hate that crap, but even then that style of music takes talent to make. all music is good because it takes talented and creative people to come up with a composition, if it be a symphony, hardcore metal or a repetitive 4/4 beat with bass and some lyrical nonsense.. so really, every musician, if you think the music is absolute hot trash or not.. no matter if it sounds like a bunch of noise deserves respect in thier own right because it takes talent and devotion to play an instrument.

and yes, i play in a tech-metal band.. so i know what its like to make music, oh and if you want to say tech-metal bands are talentless, go fuck yourself.. i also used to play jazz and so did my drummer.

yea king crimson is good. i am familiar with them because their bassist worked with dream theater on liquid tension experiment.

an artist of any style of music could have the potential to be good IF there is talent present.

Math-Metal (tech-metal or whatever you want to call it) is pretty cool sometimes. My drummer friend is all about Meshuggah so alot of our music has polyrhythms (rudiments) to fool the listener into thinking its another time signature. Basically its really off time but in 4/4 usually. Every song isn't like that though. He writes alot of Amon Amarth and As I Lay Dying style riffs... likes to upstroke alot of the melodic hooks, while pedaling triplets on the A string. Seems to like writing in dropped A on the 7 string. All the stuff I write has more downpicking and generally is alot faster with lots of licks and fills. I need to lay off trying to fit in some kind of lick or lead in every space there is in a song, makes the music sound too busy I guess. I got him to integrate more sweep picking into his riffs, specifically his hooks. My only adjustment was writing in a dropped tuning, no big deal really. We would be further along if Joey didn't flake out on us, now our drummer is our rhythm guitarist too lol.

except in the minds of every individual.

I get your point about not being able to actually prove who's right and wrong, but you go too far in saying it's not worth arguing/discussing what we think is cool music or crap. It's important to think about why we like and dislike certain things, to better understand our own brains and other peoples' brains around us.

The only real point you were trying to make that I could find in your last post was that metal fans have "become blind to the properties that have always been most pleasing in music in favor of some pre-pubescent dopamine scream feast." Even though you offer nothing to back that up, I'll analyze this statement. First of all not sure what you are referring to with "dopamine" - along with most everything you said, you might want to do some research into what your saying - dopamine is a chemical produced by the body that controls many brain functions, including movement, pleasure, etc. Fluxuation of this chemical is tied to Parkinson's and various forms of depression. You really got to explain what you're trying to say.

I think you're referring to the theme of anger/rebellion in metal music as being childish. A lot of young people are drawn to metal because metal discusses the stuff that is fucked up about this world, whether politics or religion or war, killing, etc. Metal embodies the anger and frustration about life, a very important emotion - something not to be ignored or repressed. The Metal mindset advocates not accepting something without questioning it, and to give a big "fuck this shit, let's make some changes" to what's not right about this world. Most people grow out of metal music because they learn to accept the things about the world that used to make them angry. They stop questioning things.

Let me also say what I've said before in this thread: there is a lot of shitty metal out there that sucks hard. Just like most other genres, there are geniuses and retards.

true enough TS.. i just get sick of hearing that one type of music sucks without any real reasoning behind it.

even though i despise emo music, and think that thier whole scene is full off cross dressing dudes, who are by the way, a bunch of assclowns.. even then i cant hate the music or say it even sucks cause i couldnt write some of thier songs myself.. so they obviously have something over me.

i figure i'd say that one last thing.

It is more adolescent than childish to be all rebellious and angry. Really it gets to be laughable after a while. After almost 18 years of listening to metal, I can tell you that they may question things but it isn't often very intelligent at all in how they go about it. I love Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, etc, but I wouldn't formulate my opinions based on their extremely limited knowledge. It is more like they pick what fits their chosen agenda and harp on that.

THIS IS WRONGGG I AM ANGRYYY NOT GONNA STAND FOR IT ANYMORE EVEN THOUGH I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK I AM TALKING ABOUT GRRRRRR (its not that bad but it might as well be sometimes). That gets old after a while. I enjoy hearing Nevermore sing about why we should legalize drugs, but I realize they are drug addicts who just want to get high legally lol. The world is a shitload more complex than what is represented in most lyrics... they are mostly black and white with no grey. The world will always be fucked up, it is incredibly naive to believe otherwise.

That being said our band's lyrics are basically all about questioning religion, morals, politics, etc. Of course the music is agressive, which is what I actually care about. Actions speak a fuckload louder than words, if these bands really cared so much for the causes they preach about in their music then they would do something about it. Instead they write on the popular side of things and make money off the dumbass anti-everything crowd.

Haha I can't have sound on at my work PC atm, but I can tell that is Deicide just by seeing Glen Benton. Is that something new, or just an old song with the new guitarists?

:) it's a song called "Desecration" off "The Stench of Redemption" which is a fairly new album (released 08/06) it's good stuff but not as good as the earlier shit like the s/t album with the Hoffman Bros. That album gave me nightmares when i first heard it (I was probably like 12) lol

Yeah the Hoffman brothers are big motherfuckers. I saw Deicide live only once in Orlando. Benton was egging the crowd on to beat the shit out of eachother. Most violent most pit outside of the House of Blues show that had Slayer and Fear Factory that I have been in. That Deicide show was right after "Once Upon the Cross" came out I believe. Yeah the self titled CD was fucking evil lol.

yeah deicide has actual lyrics and they are pretty hilarious imo

OPEN THE DOOR
JEHOVAH YOU WHORE
ME WANT COOKIES!!!!! (ok they don't say that lol)

They are all about the what me and my friends used to call the Christian Holocaust. Basically they think religion is a disease that has infected humanity and everyone with the disease should be killed. Deicide is so evil it is cartoonish and laughable at best. They are however really fast and heavy, which is why I like them.

Yeah Morbid Angel had more evil lyrics on Blessed are the Sick and Altars of Madness imo. I started listenting to Death Metal when I was about 16, so it didn't really scare me haha. I would say Black Metal bands like Emperor actually put the shit into practice though, they actually walk the walk not just talk the talk (they actually have gone to prison for murdering people and burning down churches). I remember an interview with Glen Benton in a magazine where he shot a squirrel with a gun and the interviewer freaked out. He then went on to call Norwegian Black Metal acts a "bunch of Hollywood Satanists". The next time Decide did a show in Norway it was bombed and the roof of the club actually had a huge hole in it afterwards lol. If you like Death Metal, Tampa has had a huge scene for years with acts like Deicide, Morbid Angel, Death (RIP Chuck), etc. I have seen all of those acts several times in Ybor City clubs.

Yeah Chuck died a while ago thats why you didn't see Death probably lol.... fucker got brain cancer and died before he hit 30. So sad since he was the better guitarist of the 3 of those bands. I am more Death > Morbid Angel > Deicide. The Hoffman brothers are intimidating looking, but they aren't on par with Chuck or Trey as far as guitar goes. Glen Benton does have scary cookie monster on PCP vocals though.

Yeah that upside down cross branded on his forehead is all about a look. Music isn't really a visual medium lol. He creates an image about himself, but he is just a redneck most likely. I care about the music and Death was around before Deicide existed and they played all the same type of shit better and before Deicide bascially.

The difference is that I don't like Chuck's vocals too much, but his guitar makes up for the anything musically in Deicide. The bass guitarist Steve Degorgio on Individual Thought Patterns wrecks any bass work Glen Benton has ever done. Gene Hoglan is better than Deicide's drummer (though both are great drummers in their own right). The Hoffman brothers have pretty short and simple songs the majority of the time and not a shitload of room to do lead or anything. Chuck + Andy Laroque or basically anyone else destroys Deicide in a guitar battle hands down. They were around first and did it better as musicians. Glen Benton is an image and he does his job well. I have been disapointed with Deicide's work after their live CD.

Death's lyrics vary more than just the straight up counter religion shit they did on Leprosy and Spiritual Healing. Human, Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic are good CDs in their own ways as well. Deicide's CDs get to be the same shit over and over again until they went more bluesy lately. That was really shittty imo. They have some catchy stuff but its not that complex.

i like how deicide does the distorted satan/demon vocals over the death metal growls and grunts. Also can't fuck with deicide's lyrical content. I've never heard Death though, so I really can't make comparisons and say which is better.
