HAHA Whisp that was awesome!

Normally I don't like it when someone spoofs hip-hop but I loved this. Reminds me of Beck a bit.

My arms would fall off. This is like watching those people who fix a rubick's cube in 8 seconds, ridiculous.

I like how he says he's gonna teach you but instead just makes you listen to him jerk off on the guitar for 3 minutes. Also, why is he using such crappy gears

What so many metal fans fail to realize is that metal isn't breaking new ground technically or anything. So many fans thing it's so hard to play, and it is, but there's wayy more technicality in a lot of jazz pieces, some 60+ years old.

Yeah I love that Jim, its fucking hilarious imo. Some people are teachers and some are doers. He can explain it, but just because you can explain it doesn't mean you can actually do it. That was him showing off, the instructional parts of stuff like that comes later and is more boring. Slowed down explanations of each part.

Jazz is more free form and metal uses its own conventions. Some jazz has gotten into metal over the years along with a more progressive movement in metal. Breaking new ground? There isn't any music that will be breaking much new ground these days, most everything great has already been done. There is some wickedly technical metal out there, as well as some other forms of music. Metal just has gotten more aggressive with its display of technique in some cases. I find it extremely entertaining in its excess.

Well Randall heads are fairly popular, it is what Dimebag used actually (when he was alive when I saw him in Orlando). Decently powerful clean sound to drive whatever distortion you are using. Their gain isn't half bad either. His guitar might be made by himself, it looks pretty crappy. Gear doesn't make the player anyways. Someone could spend $10,000 on gear and still suck total ass at guitar. They might sound nice when they hit a power chord, but their overall technique and ability still could be total shit. Michael Angelo Batio may look stupid and play a crappy looking guitar but he can play better than 99% of the guitar players out there probably.

Probably better through all the years of experience at playing a bigger variety of music. Batio has been playing live shows for years. He teaches music theory. The guy is no joke and can improvise at the drop of a hat from what I read. The two you posted were recordings of two guys playing Canon.

Recordings can be multiple takes. Those two are really good guitarists and I have seen those vids before. Just because you see these people play just this, doesn't mean that is the only style of music they can or can't play for example. I have seen Batio play tons of different crap, most of it not to my liking personally. He still is pretty crazy though and has made quite a bit of music in his day (most of it being very complex and challenging).

What I don't know about those two is if they can play a 60 minute set at that level and have very few screwups. Batio has done so for years.

A new Richard Dawkins documentary

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 3707640763

this may sound really gay but he's got an awesome voice. He should read Shakespeare or something

edit: This new one tackles a less important issue than religion. His other one is a pretty good documentary on religion (complete with ted haggard chasing him out of his church for saying that he "called his children monkeys")

No ponuh that is still about religion basically lol. Irrational belief systems = religions. His voice isn't deep enough to read all of Shakespeare's parts, really isn't commanding enough. To be honest he puts me to sleep. I have heard it all before said in even more offensive ways. This is more broad than saying just religion or being specific with one religion or belief in general.

i respect richard dawkins more than any human (aside from my family), and i want to walk a similar but unique path as his in my life. i am hoping through my studies in biology at emory, i can elaborate / advance my ideas, reach a plateau of intellect comparable to his, and from there i will see just what my brain is capable of. i've agreed with everything he has ever said, 100%, and no one else in this world can i say that about.

I agree with most of what he says but there are a few points of contention. The ones that pop into my mind are his views against agnosticism. He says that they are "fence sitters" and entirely indecisive. I would call myself an atheist but agnosticism is really the product of what his personal beliefs prescribe. Skepticism and reliance on evidence, and since no evidence has come or will come to disprove God, one must remain agnostic. So to attack that seems odd to me. He does make the distinction that there should be a jumping off point where enough evidence accounts for natural based theories can allow one to safely label themselves as atheists without betraying skepticism.

Still, there's just too much dark matter for a lot of people out there to completely rule God out.

edit: also I think the "Brights" movement (movement to give atheists a slang name similar to "Gays" as "Brights") the only problem is that these nicknames are rarely self given and "Brights" implies some sort of intellectual superiority.

the thing about agnosticism is based on how one uses the word. i consider myself an agnostic atheist. because i don't believe in a god (atheist) and i don't claim to know the truth (agnostic). according to my understanding, agnostic just refers to, basically, whether or not you admit that you may be wrong. with that in mind, agnosticism itself is only a description that can be attached to a belief, i.e. agnostic Christian, agnostic atheist, etc. If someone were asked their religion or set of beliefs, and they answered "agnostic," it wouldn't really answer what they think. And what Dawkins is unnerved about is that people will say their religion is "Agnostic" in order to avoid commitment to an opinion either because they are afraid to say what they think or because they really just don't give a crap about the big questions of existence. Like, I'd say, "I'm agnostic, but I believe nothing spiritual exists." If someone were to say, "I'm agnostic, but I don't have a freakin clue and I honestly don't give a damn," which is the group Dawkins is referring to, it begs the question, "You're agnostic about WHAT?"
