Do you even know what the fuck refined means? Refined doesn't mean you listen to music with your pinky out drinking wine and eating cheese, while sitting a chair necessarily either. I don't want to listen to refined shit anyways. I would rather listen to cheesy shit that has technical playing than any half assed formulated crap that was played better by someone centuries ago. It isn't all chromatic (atonal chromatic metal is definitely big), there are scalar and modal riffs/melodies out there if you are paying attention.

There are metal bands with a message, you missed out on that one by a long shot. Do you think Sepultura never had a message at any time? Sure seemed political at times to me, even though it was just some Brazilian guys pissed off at their government. Euthanasia, abortion, legalization of drugs (of course haha), racism and a variety of other subjects have been covered by metal bands over the years. It is agressive and often angry admittedly, but the lyrics are hardly sex&drugs and whiny teenage love songs (true juvenile subjects imo).
