The randomness of the event is what ruins it.

Yesterday we had Van Darnus and his assortment of centurions and chimeras. At one point after everything else had died about 10 of them suddenly popped on top of everyone at once, and then another 20-30 at the gate. I've seen screenshots of Great Buffalo and Malboros in the mix too. Not to mention screenshots of about 8 Darnus' at once.

But I had to sit online for 8 hours waiting for it to happen. And only then it happened 5 minutes after I logged and somebody had to call me back online. I got a video I'll post later though.

I think the event is neat. And if they didn't do it, it would be lame. But it's also not something that can keep a person's interest for a week and a half. We need rewards. And if it's not long-term rewards, then give us something absolutely absurd like buildings crumbling or being able to fly or grow 10 times larger or PvP or something nuts.

Exactly. I just want some temporary "ohhh cool" effect. By having some never before seen mob kill me, or some already known mob using never before seen spells.

I dont care if it doesnt get saved. The FFXI end of beta event was cool. Something like that would be awesome. Its pretty close to being the same. Its just more random and no SE staff.

Yeah it would be cool if they added a couple new mobs for this. Or even re-skin the current ones a bit more. Make a black chimera that casts meteor.

Edit: The battles didn't especially impress me but being able to ride gobbue in the streets of the city is in itself worth it haha.

A neogaf user was offering to link people to a collection of screen shots from the alpha test, but I'm not a member to be able to pm them for a link. Is anyone able to?

So, if you log out at your bed and log in later (about half an hour minimum) you can get a free random Relic Weapon.

Course, it'll be gone again in 5 days, but if you desperately wanted to have one now's your chance.

Ok the relic weapon thing is awesome. I'll login for that lol. Might as well get some last minute photos before my character model changes anyways.

All Worlds Maintenance (Nov. 7)
At the following date and time, we will be performing maintenance on FINAL FANTASY XIV to implement a version update for the final event. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XIV will be unavailable.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

[Date & Time]
Nov. 7, 2012 from 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. (PST)

* The completion time may be subject to change.

[Affected Service]
- FINAL FANTASY XIV

[Update Details]
Below are updates related to the end of the Seventh Umbral Era:

- Certain monsters in the Mor Dhona region, sensing the impending end of the world, will begin running away.
- The chocobo and goobbue mounts inside the city that are excited to a point of vanishing from thin air will calm down to a certain degree.

Below are updates related to events:

- Conditions for participating in “Bowl of Embers (Extreme)” will be relaxed.
* Players will now be able to participate if they have completed “Bowl of Embers (Hard).”

- Conditions for triggering “To Kill a Raven” will be relaxed.
* Players will now be able to receive the quest if they have a class that is level 45 or higher in either the Disciples of War or Disciples of Magic discipline.

- Conditions for triggering “Living on a Prayer” will be relaxed.
* Players will now be able to receive the quest if they belong to a grand company.

Unfortunately, since nobody actually logs on, we won't be playing around with Ifrit Extreme any time soon, despite everyone having free relics and all NPC repairs now costing 1 gil.

I can see them giving a final chance for people to see the end of days story line through To Kill a Raven and Living on a Prayer, but why Ifrit Extreme? Was there extra story line added to that? I thought it was just the same cutscenes as the other two versions.

Every time I've logged in, I was literally the only person in our LS online lol. I logged in about 3 different times yesterday spread throughout the day.

I will totally log in to try out Ifrit Extreme. I want to see what it's like pre 2.0.

I'd try it out too. Busy the next two nights, but I might have time Friday. I have all relics except BLM.

Yeah I would like to try it also. I'm free all this week/weekend.

I never cared about getting a relic, until I started getting them from this event lol.

The battle in V2.0 might be vastly different. So if we did Ifrit Extreme it would probably just be to kill time. Not really to learn techniques.

In case you don't/didn't see the message.

As of this morning until the servers go offline, EVERYONE can log into FFXIV. Even if your account is in-active due to never paying for it.

Quote:
In order to rally the greatest possible number of adventurers for the final reckoning, the game will be opened to all FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Account holders between Thursday, November 8, 2012, at 8:00 (GMT) and Sunday, November 11, 2012, at the same hour (GMT). You will be able to log in* during this time regardless of your subscription status.

* With the exception of The Lodestone and the official forums.
* Any progress made will not carry over to A Realm Reborn.

This is so that everyone gets a chance to see the final hours of the game. There's supposed to be a massive event/battle in Mor Dhona.

They have also opened up the final boss of the game (Nael Van Darnus) for everyone to fight and see the cutscenes for, even if you've done none of the pre-requisite quests, before it's removed from the game for good.

Those of you who've been sitting on the sidelines: It's worth giving the game a look. It's come a decent way since they started charging for it. And it's only for a few days.

The final reckoning sure is a at a shitty time:

Quote:
Hour of Reckoning
Sunday, November 11, 2012, at 6:00 (GMT) – Sunday, November 11, 2012, at 8:00 (GMT)

Place of Reckoning
Brittlebark, Mor Dhona

That's 1AM to 3AM EST. Conveniently while I'm at work.

SE made sure to pick a time that was inconvenient to anybody but Japan. Being a weekend I'm sure there must have been a better time.

I should try to install FF14 on my new laptop and see how well it performs. I got one of those Asus G75 ones.
