Nice to see they are reliable (SSD's) it might have been when they first came out they had all sorts of problems. I wanted one but that fact that my drives load fast anyways it's more of a luxury now.

I only have an A.S. lol. . .

I have a Sandisk 120GB SSD. I only put Battlefield 3 and Diablo 3 on it right now, since I don't really have anything else that would need super fast hard drive speed for. I really should have put Saints Row 3 on it because I had atrocious start up times, but oh well. I am just worried about FFXIV having big expansions that will end up not fitting on it.

They used to be more problematic. One (somewhat) concern is the limited amount of times they can write in their lifespan. But the number is so incredibly high it's really not a problem.

The only thing to make sure of, is to never use hibernate with an SSD. Unlike sleep mode where all data is stored on RAM, hibernate it's all stored on the HD. So people that hibernate often can cause many GB of write on the SSD and reduce it's overall lifespan.

Really though I don't see the need to ever use hibernate. If you don't want the PSU to idle in sleep mode, just shut the PC down. It will fully boot back up in like 10 seconds anyways.

Only reason to use hibernate is laptops and other similar battery powered devices. If the battery drops to like 3% during sleep mode they turn themselves back on, hibernate, and power off again. That way the battery running out while it's asleep (which is possible if you forget about it) won't lose your work.

Any modern machine is supposed to be fully compatible with all the fancy Suspend to RAM (aka "Sleep") power states by default. I remember back in the Windows ME/2000 and very early XP days where not every computer could properly hit S3 power state (Sleep). Or, more commonly, it could hit S3 power state, but couldn't boot back up out of it!

Quote:

Anyhow, this line stood out to me. If your PSU is not powering down when your PC goes into standby/sleep, it's not hitting S3 power state for some reason. I've seen a few motherboards where there's an option in the BIOS that defaults standby to S1 instead of S3. Look for it, change it to S3.

All that said, Windows 8 requires hibernate to be enabled to use the new "Fast Startup" feature. What this does is hibernate only the windows kernel (everything else is still closed, stopped, and shut down). It's why Windows 8, even without an SSD, has such a fast boot up time. So technically, your computer is hibernating every time you shut it down. I'm sure this doesn't write anywhere near as much data to the disk though, since it's just the kernel and none of your applications, cache, or anything else.

I wondered how Windows 8 started up so much quicker, that's interesting.

Phase 3 client is up, run your beta launcher. It's a 6GB download.

Try associating that beta pass to your account again. You may not be able to download it until it knows you're a beta tester.

Direct client link. 100mb or so. The client downloads the rest as a "patch", but not unless you log in with an account approved for beta access.

Code:

Btw, first Phase 3 weekend will NOT have our 1.0 characters. They will only be available from weekend 2 onwards.

lol... Well, that gets a big "What's the point, then?" from me.

I guess I can toy around with the character creator and write down the selections for how I'm going to change Ridere Tirose. I wonder if the game will be any better for boxing. Last time I tried it with Ridere and Risata, there was still a bunch of trouble with following and such.

I think it'd still be fun to try and box the game, if it was better supported. I had a blast 5 boxing WoW.

For the beta testing, is it better to leave the old client installed and update from that, or just fresh install everything?

same, what's the point? doesn't matter to me anyway since we're finalizing our move from the apt. to the house all this weekend so we won't get to play due to no internet until Sunday, but yeah I would probably play for 30 minutes or so otherwise and then just wait for my 1.0 char to be playable

Datamined limit breaks:

Tank ones are kinda shitty (unless they work on stuff like Hellfire/Aerial Blast).

Healer Level 3 is OP as fuck.

Yah, and then It'd be like Divine Sealing a Curaga III in FFXI. Basically meaning Death for the WHM.

But it does look awesome! I look forward to being a dedicated healer again, and farting around with a SMN every now and then.

I'm intrigued by the fact that attacker and caster potency numbers are so different. I wonder if that's because caster LBs are AE.

From the live letter: Arcanist branches out into both Summoner AND Scholar. More jobs in future may branch out from existing classes.

Arcanist is a carby soloer, Scholar is like an aoe regen-style healer, and Summoner is more of a heavy duty role-based pet class it seems.
