To Comment on Vaelan, when i was learning gods, I knew the mythology vaguely from watching a lot of Fushigi Yuugi when I was young. ( its like a more Melodramatic inuyasha and for years was a staple of gay amateur erotic comics in japan ( Yaoi Doujinshi for tho0se more up on the japanese Lingo)). Anyway it mentioned the four gods and their various elements, and quadrant wise so I could think back to the show whenever I forgot... Although admitedly all i remmebered easily was that genbu was the north cause it was always snowing in his country ^ ^;;

Remember her best friend (the blonde) was the leader of Seiryu... in the anime it actually described her from West not from the East... since it's based in a ancient China setting...

FFXI is a bit different because in Japan the Emperor is supposed to read the chart from north instead of from the south (like us the common people)

If you visit a shrine in Japan (ex. Meiji Jingou) you will see the position similiar to the FFXI where as all the Chinese methology will have the position chart as anime

That's why in the FFXI Seiryu and Byakko have their position switched

The story was a pretty good one I think I read and watch all there were...

yeah... I got confused in a Japanese Shine once because I dont understand that part of the story... (most of the large ones are very cool they built them exactly facing south.)

yeah im a big fushigi yuugi fan (if you cant tell by the name) and i have the dvd sets for it. I was disappointed at first when the gods were just either "great bird" or "tiger". at least they look really awesome now.
