When I first started to play I wanted to be a SMN. I iked the idea of being a SMN. Strangely enough it's the only level 1 job I have left. haha.

Another thing I fell in love with was before the TP nerf literraly watchinig Kayne use Asuran Fists like every 10 seconds on mobs in Beadeaux for over 1k damage.

I just always have liked MMORPGs... have always liked FF... And wanted to play a Dark Knight. When I got the beta I was RDM Mithra, but I knew in retail I'd go DRK. lol RDM is also now my only level 1 job.

the overall expasiveness of the game impressed me but I hate running around now ; ;
The first thing that truly impressed the hell out of me was that 1st boat ride from Mhaura to Selbina...it was all so magical then.

Before I actually bought the game, I loved the idea of playing as a Dragoon with a pet dragon. Of course, the one picture I saw of a dragoon was zooned in, so I thought the pet dragon was gonna be way larger than it actually is. Like around Garuda size, or something.

When I actually started playing the game, though, I think the first thing that really impressed me is actually a tie. A tie between seeing summons for the first time (There were no level 20 summoner quests back then, and most of us didn't even have a level 30 jobs. So needless to say, seeing Ramuh in South Gustaberg was horribly impressive) and recognizing my first piece of AF armor. I saw the player "Peach" in Bastok Markets in WHM AF, and it blew me away, because I recognized it from the other FF games.

It was shortly thereafter that I put aside the WAR (at level 20) and took up WHM. And, of course, my preferred subjob for WHM is SMN. In all reality, it's probably a combination of those two things why I ended up being a WHM75/SMN37.

So much for my original plan of being a DRG. heh And I still think WHM AF is one of the cooler looking AF sets out there... All except that effing hat. The hat should instead be made to mesh with the body armor in a way that it looks like an actual hood and not some partially rolled-out condom.

Figuring out I was better than everyone else, so I was all like "OMGZ I rule, I will be 75 in no time!"

Then I did, and I beat the game, and you were all jealous.

...

...

... but for real I dunno. The AF really impressed me I guess.

i was in "Friends" LS as "Avulus" the elvaan thief. there is a stream in ghelsba outpost, with a little bridge and people often fish there. i decided to get down in the stream and follow it left, and some guy followed me lol... he handed me a Friends pearl (light green if i remember).. forgot who the guy was though.

I'm 100% serious! the other day I saw a torrent with 300+ megs of FFXI porn.

Thats a lot of FFXI porn.

And thus i was impressed.

I'd find it again and give a link but there's a lot of minors and such who read this family friendly website.

And i'm lazy.

The thing that impressed me the most at first with FFXI was watching a JP MNK in AF use Chi blast on a wild rabbit for 500 damage. I was like "WOW WTF??" He was on anon so I had no idea what lvl he was at...but it made me strive to achieve that 500 DMG goal lol. Sadly enough I never reached that goal till I hit 49 with my SAM and hit a Goblin in Lower Delfkut's tower for 1.2k damage with Tachi: Jinpu...needless to say I never saw it hit that much ever again lol.

Shortly after I first stepped out of Sandy and into Ronfanue I look up and see the ship like thing fly over head. I imediatly ask my friend (whose been playing a toal week more than me) what it was.

"Hey dude, what was that thing that just flew overhead?"
"That was the airship, High lvls can ride it as fast transport between towns."
"Wait, your telling me they animated the transports in flying over head for all us new players to see."
"Yup"
"D$%#, thats both evilly depressing and insipiring at the same time"
"Yup, now shut up and kill that bunny."
"K, ....uh,how do I engage it again?"
"..."

I would have to say that there were many things that impressed me with FFXI. Firstly it blew my mind that people on both PC and PS2 could play together at the same time. That was amazing. This was my first step into the world of MMORPG's and I will admit I was a little hesitant. She sheer size of the area's and the entire world in general was incredible. The cutscenes were great (especially the ones I recently saw with the Shadow Lord and the beginning of the Zilart missions [GO CRYSTAL WARRIORS !!!]). As well I was very impressed at the crossing of language barriers having both Japanese and English players together (thank you auto-translate function, though it still needs to be upgraded more). As for this kindness you all speak of, well, it must have decreased signifigantly since the PS2 release (when I joined the FFXI community), but that's not to say that there are not helpful people on the game. Wish everyone could be like you all say they were again. :)

The first thing that impressed me happened while I was killin quadavs in Palborough mines....I met Laylaa. we were both lvl 10 or 11 WAR, and I was surprised about how much more HP I had. Anyways, I found out that she(he) was from Sandoria....I was blown away, the game had been out for less than 2 days, and this person had already been to my town. I got her to escort me to Sand, and it was soooooofar away, lol. She kept telling me to run away from orcs haha.....then she gave me a linkpearl for BoA, and I met Kayne. The rest is history

Whatever happened to the LS "Friend" not the "Friends" one but the singular version. That seemed to be such a huge LS back in my pre-30 days, and then sometime along the road, I just stopped seeing people wearing it.

Another piece of nostalgia I had was when I started AHing things in bastok, I was impressed that all of my junk was always bought by the same guy, "AH-bast" I remember finally realizing that it wasn't the name of the buyer that was displayed in the delivery box, but instead the name of the auction house. I felt horribly silly. :P
