This semester my college is offering a new class where we team up and build a quake3 mod. There are currently 10 people enrolled in the class including a couple of art majors, so we should be able to make something that turns out decent.

The only problem is that the class is currently short on good ideas for what the mod should include.

The main restriction is that the head of the department thinks the game should be family oriented, so you cant kill other players in the mod. (This is the main reason for the lack of ideas.)

Do any of you have any cool or interesting ideas for a quake 3 mod that would meet this requirement?

um. You can't kill people? Maybe like an escape game where the whole thing is fabricated around you trying to escape from something.

...or a Tron type game where you're all in a computer and some are viruses and others are users or something. No gore, but you're shooting and jumping around and stuff. You aren't actually killing people, it's pretty wholesome.

OR it oculd be like virus/antivirus and have a round based CS type game

It's not a game if you can't kill people

We played like crazy like 2-3 years ago but dont play any more.


Freeze tag was the only mod I could stand.

Yeah i loved Freeze tag it just needed some tweaking a bit to make it awsome.

Do some research on rocket crowbar for CS then make it somethin with Taru's and Mandragora

Freeze tag is my favorite mod too. I also had fun playing catch the chicken at some lan parties I went to.

paintball? good ol rocket crowbar, i used to be all into the HL mods, mainly CS.... good ol CAL/OGL/UGS

Rocket Arena was the best mod for the quake series. Alot of times to prepare for matches or if we were bored we would set self damage off and practice moving skills. Rocket jumping in particular was a good skill to master and we would chase each other around or have races around the map. You can set up an obstacle course and have a race to get a flag from the other side of the map and bring it back. Make a few water pits that if you dont jump it right you have to swim back and try again. Just an idea hehe. Another mod that was fun was Gridiron. It was kind of like a 1 on 1 quake football game so maybe you can try something sports related. Good luck, i would like to hear what you come up with.

We finally had our first class meeting last week, and we discussed ideas that class members had thought of. It seems that we will probably end up making a sports game since thats the best thing that will work with the Q3 framework.
